Not even close to the original. I agree an insult to Simon and Garfunkel.

Not really - a little footnote Re: Disturbed's rendition - "In April 2016, Paul Simon endorsed the cover. Additionally, on April 1, Simon sent lead vocalist David Draiman an email praising Disturbed's performance of the rendition on late-night talk show Conan. Simon wrote: “Really powerful performance on Conan the other day. First time I’d seen you do it live. Nice. Thanks.” Draiman responded, “Mr. Simon, I am honored beyond words. We only hoped to pay homage and honor to the brilliance of one of the greatest songwriters of all time. Your compliment means the world to me/ us and we are eternally grateful.”

I'd have sat through that performance, but would still regret that it wasn't Simon and Garfunkle singing it.

I've posted several questions and added a fair number of comments to other Photography topic comments but this is my first under general chit chat. There have been a few strings bemoaning how rock 'n roll hasn't really come up with anything new for the past several decades. I'm in complete agreement with that assertion but maybe that's not always bad a thing. Here's an incredible version of Simon & Garfunkel's "Sounds of Silence" done by no other than a current heavy metal band. I have to admit, while Heavy Metal isn't to my taste, that music form has some incredible talent both in vocals and guitarmanship. Here's "Disturbed" doing the great '60's song that's as relevant today as it was almost 50 years ago. http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=disturbed+sound+of+silence&&view=detail&mid=42C83DCBEED16998B0DC42C83DCBEED16998B0DC&FORM=VRDGAR Hope the link works otherwise, cut and paste.

There are a number of versions on the internet but this one has good fidelity (if you remember the song, you know what that means) and is a good version.

The original was one of the greatest, the most iconic, songs of the time. For many of us personally, I think that it could even be considered historic. When songs that are redone really well, they have much of the same feeling and emotional impact as the original, but in an expanded and somewhat creative way. I don't think this is a competitive thing, in that one should be forgotten and the other retain, or acquire, the status of the superior rendition. Without the original, all others would not even exist. They make the Sounds of Silence universe larger, and more enjoyable overall, IMO. Of course, we all have our favorite, but that shouldn't close us off from appreciating other takes on the same music. Of course, the remakes have to be exceptional to make the cut. For instance, the acappella version was nice, but I prefer the other two. But that's only my personal taste, and is not meant to be a quality rating for other people to accept as the final judgement on the matter.

All three have something to offer.
And each group made it their own.
All covers pay homage to the original.

You must be kidding, it may indeed be good for a heavy metal band, but not even close to S&G.

Had I never heard the original, I might have thought these guys did a good job but they can't hold a candle to Simon & Garfunkel........

That is an excellent version well done.

If you want to hear a FABULOUS version of this song, check out the attached link:

It's done by Peter Hollens and Tim Foust (the bass singer from Home Free). Strictly acapella and in my opinion very true to the original feel of the song.

I love everything that these guys do.

This song brings me to a stand still no matter who is singing it. I was fortune to have seen S&G in person back in the 70's -
been hooked on them and the song eversense.

After listening to this version I went back and listened to Simon and Garfunkel. No comparison.

I do like some heavy metal, and I think this is a very good cover of the song. But it's more a tribute to how great the song is than it is to the band.

I have always liked this song and it sounded good but I quickly went to Youtube to listen to the original. To me, this version does not have the emotion --- the original is much, much better.

"Disturb"s cover was a worthy effort, but I still prefer the original, both because of its superior musicality, IMHO, and because it spoke directly to me when it debuted.
