I can't believe they couldn't add IR to a "top of the line" body.

The easiest explanation is that "top line" shooters don't want IR control. The IR remote I have used on other bodies is limited to line-of-sight within 16 feet. For JC, that's good, but radio control has a range of hundreds of feet through walls and around corners.

As an afterthought, I just learned that CamRanger has added D500 compatibility, but it needs a free firmware update.

I agree so went with a 28 buck remote. Has not arrived yet but when it does I'll let you know.

I might get slapped int he face for saying this, but kind of wish it had a flash as well but not that much. Also and I'll not only get slapped for this but kicked in the butt as well... Sometimes when I"m a bit confused or frustrated wish it had the "green" automatic option. LOL I have my control settings (A,B,C,D) set up and have D set for PARTY which is a very forgiving setting and a bit point and shoot setting.

Yes, the flash and Auto can be useful.

When I use the IR remote, I'm not very far away from the camera. I'll have to make a list of what not to do when I'm out in public so I don't look like a newbie.

Take a look at this if you will be adding radio control flash. That is real handy as no linen of site is necessary, and the flash is controlled on the camera screen.
