Is it possible to directly download photos from a NIKON D750 unto a flash drive? If not, is there another portable way beyond having several flash cards?

It is possible to copy from camera to flash drive using computer, connecting both of them to computer. In this PC Device and drives open d750 folder containing pictures, right click, Copy then paste it to flash drive. How can I do it without computer I do not know. I think it is impossible.

Check out Western Digital "My Passport". It's a battery operated, portable hard drive with an SD card reader built in.

WD Passport. Has SD card slot. Set it up dor auto-copy. No computer needed. 2 TB drive.

I would only do it through my computer or tablet or something where you can see your file structure so you know you have made the transfer. As mentioned above WD has a Passport drive with an SD card reader but when using it you are copying blind.

I just bought a RAVPower FileHub Plus on Amazon for $40. It is small and light-weight, it has an SD card slot and a USB port for a thumb drive or external hard drive, and it doubles as a wireless travel router and a 6000mAh external battery pack. You control the file transfer with an app on your cell phone, and you can view your pictures on your cellphone to verify successful copy. I've tested it a couple of times and it seems to work as advertised. I've purchased several other RAVPower electronic items in the past from Sunvalleytek via Amazon and have always been impressed with the quality of their products and their customer service.

Just bought same following recommendation from someone else on here. This is a great compromise because a) you get to use multiple drives/USB sticks so can make multiple redundant copies, and b) you can examine the file structure and contents using your phone to ensure everything copied over OK before erasing your cards.
Bonus - it is an external battery to charge your phone, etc. on the go! Also portable wireless access point if your hotel room only has a wired Ethernet connection. Small enough and light enough to put in your camera bag. I pair it with a couple of super slim, super light Seagate 1TB/2TB drives.

There are many small Android tablets, ie 7 and 8 inch Samsung's and many others which with a simple inexpensive USB OTG adaptor cable can monitor an External Drive to see files on it if they are jpg format. Free Apps are available which allow viewing RAW files, ie LR. 10 inch tablets are also available. Many of these tablets are equipped with External SD slots with a capacity of up to 128 GB but they generally would not make good storage devices but do make excellent small monitor devices. The internal memory on any tablet should not be less than 16 GB which is adequate since the OS only uses about 4 GB
So one of the external drives described in other posts plus a small Android tablet with and OTG USB adaptor will make an an excellent small bundle to replace the functions of a PC. Apple iPad devices will work as well but at at higher cost for the tablet and adaptor.
