Thanks, all. I am a member at Pentax Forums (ripper2860) and really like it there. Heard about Hedgehog and thought I would venture out and expand my horizons a bit. Always nice to have a few good sources for info and for fun on all things camera. I'm not exclusively looking for Pentax buddies, though. I'm getting back into film with Pentax bodies, Kodak Retinas, Yashica and Konica rangefinders, and Yashica TLR's. Heck, I've even taken to shooting a Polaroid 250 Land Camera with Fuji instant film and recover the negatives to scan. It's all great fun and I never cease to be impressed with the engineering. And don't get me started on shooting vintage M42 and K mount glass!!

As to feisty members -- don't worry. I can give as good as I take, so any crotchety folks that wish to spew their venom will find that I'm not the sort to tuck tail and run. I am quite civil, however, and quite able to suggest they visit Hades in such a way that they'll look forward to the trip. ;-)

Here's a link to my collection, if you care to look and make any comments or suggestions

Thanks again. everyone. Happy to be here and I'm looking forward to some great discussions and tips.

Wow, you have more Pentax stuff than I do! I have a Digital K-100D converted to full time IR use, K-20D and K-5. I see you have a few Auto-Takumar lenses. What do you use those for? I bought one 35mm f/3.5 Auto-Takumar to use for IR photography because I'm thinking it is likely single coated and would transmit more IR light. I'm not sure it does what I want but it does give me a different IR image than my 35mm f/3.5 SMC-Takumar or 35mm f/2.8 SMC-Pentax KA lens. The old Auto-Takumar is tiny compared to its more modern brethren. Though that switch and pin is a pain. I have some twenty-three 35mm-type lenses, all but two Pentax/Takumar branded. The others are a 19mm f/3.8 Vivitar (Pentax-KA mount), 16-200mm Tamron (Pentax-DA or -FA mount, I'll have to try it on a film camera to check). I would really love to get K-1 and K-3II cameras. But the $$$$!

We're here. I started with a Spotmatic in 1968, Spotmatic II, serversl ME Supers and ventured into Nikon FTn and Leica R4S and Rolliflex 2.8. Then went digital with Leica Digilux 2, Pentax ist-D, K20D, K3, and K1. Almost when to Canon when Pentax announced the K1. I have a large library of Pentax M42 and K lenses from 17 mm to 500mm SMC glass. Pentax people are around!

There are a few lurking out there. They keep the Canonikons on their toes.

Yes, we keep a low profile so the canon's don't hunt us. I looked at your collection and I really like it. You look to have a bit more diversity than I do but I have a lot of the same type things. I also have a couple of stereo cameras from the 50's. I only have a few screw mount Pentax's, but about 65 K mount bodies, plus 110 and 6x7 collections. Also have 50+ Pentax lenses and a few others, 16 to 500mm. 4DSLR's starting with the is'D and ending with a K-1. I still shoot the 6x7 sometimes and fondle a MX or a LX just for the wonder of workmanship. Happy shooting and welcome to the HOG.

Why would you think that Canon users - as opposed to Nikon or Sony or Fujifilm or Olympus et al - would hunt Pentaxians?

I've never owned a Pentax, but I have used them and they are very fine cameras. These brand wars or brand evangelists are generally puerile.

Hopefully there will be some good and productive Pentax related discussions.

Yes ... just found a used K1 on eBay (mine for just a very few days so have barely used it) and have stuck with Pentax since my first camera ever, a second-hand k1000 SE. I have a bunch of vintage Pentax lenses that I love and my 77mm limited lens is my favorite digital. It's true love and $avings, considering the digital cameras are under-priced IMO because of the step-child status of the brand. Very lucky for us, as long as Pentax can stay in the game. Welcome!

I've found much the same, here. I use a K10D (entry-level DSLR) because I recently upgraded from three K-1000s, (entry-level SLR). I wanted to stay with Pentax because I wished to use the same lenses, and they all fit either camera. Don't mind the manual setup. I've got one auto lens, which came with the body (used). Haven't learned a great deal about it, yet, but will in time! Good to find other Pentax folks here!

Well, yes, some of us know what Av and Tv means because Canon often uses those same terms. But I really have to wonder how many people follow me when I talk about say my K2 DMD film camera, or what a M-series lens is vs. say a D FA-series lens.

The terminology for different automation modes is an interesting little historical meander. Av - Aperture value or priority, Tv - Time value or priority, also called shutter priority, I'm not sure when Pentax introduced those capabilities as user selectable options. Canon introduced that terminology in 1978 with the Canon A-1 if I recall correctly and has used it since then. Prior to the A-1 Canon automated cameras used one mode or the other, but not both.

When did Pentax start using that terminology - or any other vendor? Not important, but interesting. It's good from my perspective to see some commonality between Canon and Pentax users.

Hi all,

New to the forum and Hedgehog. I've been reading posts for the last few weeks and haven't really found anyone with posts related to Pentax. I've found quite few good articles that have lead me to excellent utilities and tips that are general photography related, but I'm just curious if there are any Pentaxians present. Doesn't really matter -- just curious.

Thanks!!

Richard

Marilyn, my wife, and I both shot Pentax in the 70's and 80's. I also shot Nikon and Rollie film cameras. We have had great experience with Pentax and wish you the very best and welcome to this group

Easy target, low hanging fruit, conversation starter, Why does anyone make provocative posts here?
