Well, I'm now inspired. Your photos of those incredible flyers are just excellent! I have no idea how you were able to get such crisp, very well focused and such brilliantly color-saturated photographs but you did it! I recently bought a Sony camera with a Zeiss lens and it is capable of really high quality photos if I somehow, often accidentally, use the optimal settings. I rarely do. I'm practicing often and, in spite of over 50 years of "practice", I'm finally getting a few things right. Maybe now, after seeing your terrific photographs of those high speed hummers, I'll take a crack at getting some shots of one of the hummers that frequents a feeder I've had in my backyard for years. I haven't ever tried to photograph my little friend but, thanks to my seeing your outstanding photos, I'm inspired. Thank you, Vicki, and best regards, Ricker

totally enjoying, seeing this little guy in action, drinking the nectar from the bottle brush. And the red is a wonderful contrast; showing only a part of the plant keeps the that bold color from overwhelming the image. good work on your composition, but then, you know what works.

I really appreciate your very thoughtful reply Carla. Thanks so much.

Lots of trial and error as well as many helpful suggestions have increased the keeper rate with these. Switching to RAW has helped a lot, too. You just have to make yourself get out and shoot. My birds have gotten used to me, and I can get fairly close. That has helped as much as anything.

I can't wait to see what your HB shots are like Ricker. Good luck and have fun.

Ooops. Forgot to add more of the series before hitting send.

It's nice to see the hummers getting nectar from the bottle brush rather than from a feeder. Nice work on these pretty little birds, Vicki. 😊

I've trying to get shots of these birds in other locations in the yard. When I noticed them feeding in the Bottlebrush, I decided to give it a try. They're always at the feeders, so there wouldn't be as much challenge getting shots there.

Thanks for taking a look and commenting. I appreciate the time you've taken with this post Annie.

Your very kind response to these is greatly appreciated KCD. This has been part of an ongoing project to get better shots of these charming little birds. They are a true challenge.
