Angler...Those are great shots you made. I have to admit that I was very confused when I saw those two photos. To me that bird looks like an all black robin. I could not find it in my bird book, "The Sibley Field Guide to Birds of Western North America." Then it dawned on me that you are from the UK, and not the US. 
I felt pretty stupid. Anyway, you certainly did a nice job of photographing that blackbird.
