Both Nikon and B&H have this lens for less than $200. I am shopping for an inexpensive lens for low light interior shots, museums, churches, galleries, subway stations, etc., with my D5500. I know about the plastic mounting flange but I am not that hard on my kit that this would be a concern.

I have read some of the reviews (there are more than 2100 on B&H and a couple of hundred more on Nikon's site) and they seem to be mostly favorable. Do any who own or owned this lens have any cautions or caveats?

Thanks for your help.

Got mine on eBay for 120 USD, love it, though I DID have to fine tune the auto focus.
Sorry, for some reason store original won't work for me ??
My apologies !

This is a highly mentioned lens on this forum. It's economical at a price of $197.00. I had no interest in this lens, since I already own the 50mm f1.8, which I use for kids soccer games. I will be getting this lens for indoor photography. And on a DX camera, it will give me a FOV of about 53mm. It this a great lens? No, but it's still good enough for the price. A Sigma Art Lens would be my preference though.

One of the sharpest lenses Nikon makes, especially at this price point. It's a bargain.

It is wonderfully sharp.

But it does not have VR. My Sigma 17-50 f2.8 is nearly as sharp and fast, has excellent VR (OS in Sigmaspeak), and much more versatile. But it is also much heavier and more expensive. It put the 35 out of business for me. PM if you'd like to buy my 35.

Thanks to all of you. The 5-year (one year plus four years more for registering) warranty from Nikon makes purchasing new compelling.

I will post some pix once I get it.

My only issue was it is the only DX prime I own. I wasn't going full frame so I didn't care. I now have a D810...wife can have it.

The 35mm 1.8 DX is well worth the price. What more of an affirmation do you need?

Just for your information, this lens has a metal mount, not plastic. It is compact, light and sharp, for the price you can't go wrong.
