Problems with XQD cards not being firmly seated in D500 slot

I have had problems with the XQD cards not being firmly seated in the D500 camera slot and this has caused my initial image capture to default to the SD card instead. Normally, this would not be a problem but for the soccer games that I am shooting, images are not being written as fast to the SD card. Have any of you had this similar problem and what can I do to make certain that the card will seat firmly enough? After this happened the first time, I thought I was making sure that it is firmly pushed in, but the same situation happened tonight at the game (writing to SD first). Any advice?

I have a D500 and I have not had an issue with the XQD cards. If you have another QXD card try and see if it seats. If it doesn't contact Nikon – it should be in warranty.

I also have a D500. I haven't had any problems with the XQD not seating in the slot. That push in/pop out mechanism in the slot does have a strong spring that gives a lot of resistance. You have to use more force when you push it in than with the SD card. Try pushing the card in a little deeper.

I've got a D500 and I find the XQD card does not go in the slot as smoothly as the SD card. The first time I tried to insert it, I thought something was wrong. I applied a little more pressure and it eventually went into the slot. It still isn't as smooth as the SD slot, but it's working.

It does not go into the hole as smoothly as the sd card but I have never made the mistake of not pushing it in all of the way. It sticks out far enough to be very noticeable if it isn't in all of the way. Actually, I don't even notice it being hard to get into the hole anymore either.

Shot with XQD cards in my D4 and you have to make sure you push till it stops. Like another stated, strong spring. Wish all the pro DSLR's would incorporate the XQD system.

Mine does not seat the way the SD does, with a spring release, but the camera does know it's there. I'm going to take it to the store where I bought it and make sure that it is seated correctly.

I don't know about what everyone is talking about hard to push your cards in but both of my bodies go in as did the compact cards did

The problem is not that it is hard to get the XQD cards in. It slides into the slot fine. The problem is making sure that it stays engaged and does not slip backwards and no longer registers as being inserted. Thus the SD card defaults to record the shoot session. When I see the "full" icon pop up, then I know the XQD card lost its connection because I am not shooting enough to fill up both cards.

Than I would say you have a camera issue if you sure the XOD card is securely in the slot and backs out losing contact

I went back and checked mine, and it turns out I was wrong. It is loaded with the spring, and it requires no more pressure than the SD card. So as it happens, I'm in the same boat as Jeffcs.

So I've read that the card is not seating properly. Have you tried shooting with the SD card removed, and is the XQD slot picked as the primary in the camera?
