Elephanthead Pedicularis - Olympic National Park

I was in a nice meadow of Hidden Creek, a trailless area east of Diamond Mountain that was full of Elephanthead Pedicularis (Pedicularis groenlandica) which I thought looked nice against the green of the meadow.

Also, there is a red seed head of a type of saxifrage as well.

Nice shot, I like the separation you got.

So delicate. Super depth of field. Love this!

Lovely separation from background. Really nice placement of the 3 in the image. Is that their natural colour? (Just wondering if you have intensified/saturated them.)

Thanks all of you! It's encouraging to get comments.

AzPicLady: I DID increase saturation in the red and magenta levels by a fairly mild amount - about +10 in Photoshop 6 - the colors seemed a little "muddy". I don't usually increase saturation, as Velvia is already so intense, but in this case I decided to try to separate the colors better against the background.

I don't see DOF. What am I missing?

Hi jimdandy: The depth of field is almost nonexistent on purpose - the lens was opened up all the way to f:2.8, which deliberately blurs out the background. This was the effect I wanted, at least for this image. If I had stopped the lens down to f:16 or f:22, then the background probably would have been mostly in focus (broader depth of field), but not competely in focus. The 135mm focal length pretty much prevents totally clear depth of field even when completely stopped down, especially when fairly close to the subject. Hope that makes sense.
