You camera requires an "AFS" lens, you will have no autofocus with an "AF" lense because your camera does not contain a mechanical focus drive system.

I don't know about others, but my D90 also has the top LCD info screen too. And I know what you mean about the D50. I would never part with my D90 either. It may not have all the bells, whistles and more mega pixels as the newer models, but it captures great images and is built like a tank.
I have other DSLRs and mirrorless cameras, but I seem to use the D90 more. It's like true and trusted friend to me.

Agree. The Nikon D50 was my first DSLR when I made the transition to Digital. The camera is built like a tank and I have never had one problem with it. I simply would not part with it. I have a dedicated 18-200 Nikon VR lens that lives on my D50. It is always ready to go when I want to feel Nostalgic.

The lens you bought is an AF (autofocus) lens which requires coupling with an autofocus motor in the camera body. Nikon's D3xxx and D5xxx bodies do not have an autofocus motor and therefore require AFS (autofocus silent wave) lenses which have an electronic focus motor built in.
