Eared Grebe. All dressed up and nobody showed up.

With greatly appreciated participation in Southern California this last winter the lakes on our golf coarse have water in them, at least temporarily. As such, we are attracting more birds than we have lately and surprisingly this male Eared Grebe has been hanging out providing me some photo opps. As you can tell, he is all dressed up, but unfortunately, at least so far, no females have shown up for him to court. Seeing this grebe in breeding plumage is a new one for me and I am have a bunch of fun trying to catch him in the right light and posture. Hope you enjoy.

What a cool looking bird! Thanks for sharing! I'm glad you got some reason to replenish your pond at the golf course.
Excellent shots, very nice work indeed. And what a beautifull bird, and the eyes! Sweet.
He sure is a handsome fellow. Excellent shots!
Very nice shots! I've seen more of these birds in breeding plumage when I've gone to the opposite end of California from where you are. Tulelake, for example, is a good spot for them. And there can be thousands at a time on Mono Lake during their Fall migration, but not in breeding plumage like this.
A very good set Nalu.
Hopefully he will soon find a mate.

You did, and you did take pictures ( and very nice once at that)!
Great gear combination to get those lovely shots! Those little critters can be hard to get close to.
Such a handsome fellow and you did great capturing him. Sure wish we had them over here.
