We are a city of bridges with so many photo ops along the waterfront. Of course as already mentioned Multnomah Falls along the Columbia Gorge and also we are 2 hours (max) to the pacific ocean with many interesting small towns.

If you have enough time to travel towards the Coast west of Portland, don't miss Canon Beach with beautiful sea stacks and tide pools; or drive up to the Evergreen Airplane museum (awesome collection, including the original Spruce Goose), and then stop over in Tillamook for some good cheddar cheese and ice cream. East of Portland is rife with beautiful scenic spots and waterfalls all along the Dalles. Be sure to get off the interstate and take the scenic road parallel to the highway. There are many hiking trails that lead you to hidden gems all along there, if you are into walking. Be prepared for drizzle, if not actual rain.

Portland is a beautiful city. I don't have any pointers, but I'd just drive downtown and take some pictures. There are a couple of beautiful rivers that are very scenic. I'd look there.

I totally agree with others about Columbia River Gorge. Also, if time allows go to Silver Falls State Park. Its just to the east of Salem.

Here's one of Columbia River Gorge.

Be sure to take the secondary road out of Troutdale and NOT the interstate.

Silver Falls State Park: Notice the trail behind the falls. This is a great hike if your able.

If you're a hiker and don't mind getting wet go to Eagle Creek in the Gorge on a week day -- 6 miles to Tunnel Falls one way with 6 major falls along the way, lots of cliff, forest, great in the mist and rain. Not a hard walk, but long and rocky; wear good shoes! This is a great walk.

Nice Shots of downtown on a clear day with Mt. Hood in the background from Washington Park, Also, head to the coast, Pacific City has good rock formations as well as Cannon Beach has the infamous Haystack Rock, and all along the coast, good shooting.

I'm going to be there in late July and go from there to Seattle and cruise the inside passage. Watched a YouTube show last night about the waterfalls in the Columbia River Gorge. Stunningly beautiful! Enjoy your trip!

The pedestrian bridge mentioned above is the Tilikum Bridge. Great photo ops of and from this unique structure. And within an easy walk from the bridge is the tram that runs every few minutes up to the U of O Medical in the West Hills. It only costs a few bucks and is well worth the round trip. Also consider day trips to the Oregon Coast and Mt Hood -- very, very scenic venues abound. Oh, and only if the skies are clear (pretty remote possibility this time of year), the drive up to the Johnson Center on Mt St Helens in Washington his some grand views. Enjoy your trip -- you'll like Portland.

Actually, there is a Haystack Rock that exists in both Cannon Beach and Pacific City. There is also a third Haystack Rock, located in Bandon, along the southern Oregon Coast. The one in Pacific City is the largest, at 340.6 feet high and a mile off shore, while the one in Cannon Beach is closest to shore, at 235 feet high, with access to tide pools at low tide.

I agree with all of the suggestion that have been made but I don't think anyone mentioned the Willamette Valley vineyards, which begin a short drive south of the city. Besides the photo ops of beautiful rolling hills dotted with wine vineyards and small, quaint towns, you also get to do wine tastings of some of the best Pinot Noir in the world. Just my opinion.
