The price for Pentax lenses from 3rd party mfg's

It's getting so the price difference with third party lenses is, or is just about the same. Thinking about it, my Sigma 70-200mm f:2.8 was the same price.

It is suppose to be pretty fancy with an auto focus switch, and a #1 and #2 vibration control switch on the side. Well I hear to say they screwed up!

Several camera mfg's that has a superior in-body shake reduction. Pentax now has 5 way control for that. So if Sigma and Tamron would just throw away that ability they could save a bundle. Since the 1st week, I have had the lens control turned OFF simply because I don't want to go backwards.

Having an auto focus is really good. Mine is used most all of the time but the extra cost of having a switch on the side is just an eyesore. Pentax has had a simple on body stitch to turn the auto focus on, single focus on, or everything off. The cost of a switch might not be much but in these days I seen automobile mfg's use three bolts instead of four, just to save a penny.

Sure some might know that I just venting that I have to get Canon/Nikon lenses with only a mount change but it's not just that. When I cover an event, often I need two cameras. When using the non 3rd party lens, the other is hanging on my side and swings around a little. those stupid switches on the side on the lenses sometimes get turned on and screw up my settings. After loosing a couple shots to that garbage, I relies it has changed and make the manual change myself. About three or four time a year this happens so I've figured out a good fix. A simple strip of painters tape over those crazy switched and not more problems. (Painters tape is used since I don't want sticky residue left on the lens.)

As I said, I'm just VENTING!!!! (Now... I feel better.)

Gaffer's tape works pretty well, too.
Speaking as an old gaffer myself, (LoL) Ralph

I believe GENorkus is a smart, respectable guy (tho we don't always agree), that is why I responded to him. Perhaps gaffers tape would be helpful to curb your constant anger. /Ralph

GE - I would think it would be more upsetting that the third party lens manufacturers have almost abandoned the Pentax K mount. Our options are very limited. And if you don't like switches on the barrel of lenses, I suggest you stay away from Pentax' own 150-450mm zoom. Lots of switches on that baby (which I wish I could convince myself to spend the money on). Hang in there and keep enjoying your Pentaxes.

I grew up using Pentax cameras and finally switched to the Nikon F5 as Pentax could not offer anywhere near the system that Nikon/Canon had at the time. Today, after being sold x number of times, Pentax seems to be wanting to return to the game, but, having just finally released a full frame body, will need to seriously increase their lens & accessory offerings to become anything more that an amateur's camera system. I don't mean to knock them as I have always appreciated their gear, they just plain do not have enough of it at this time. I still have one of my Pentax Spotmatic bodies and one screw mount 50mm lens. Enjoy.

Realistically it is probably the best production price to produce lenses the way they are, rather than retooling to make a Pentax (or Sony to be fair) variation. My Pentax Pz-1P can probably use the in lens SR, so if you get really fed up :) Maybe a lens dedicated `SR system performs better than the inbody SR for a third party lens. I think olympus M43 has the option of both too.

There is a need for a good selection of lenses for Pentax in order to grow market share, Ricoh are doing well with Pentax, at least be glad third party manufacturers have some faith that it is worth supplying lenses for Pentax camera's again.
