I have had the same thing happen, although my Nikon lens are all black. But for some reason those white lens really get people's attention.

I'm new to UHH but have been following the site for the past week or so; attempting to absorb as much information as possible. One thing I've picked up was to shoot and shoot some more. Taking this advice as I needed the practice, I tagged along with my daughter to her service project. This month's project was the annual Greek Unity Picnic. Long story short more than a few people asked me if I was the event photographer and struck many group poses. All this because of my D7000 with long lense with hood. If they only knew. Thanks for the practice.

Welcome to our forum. Yes, having a nice-looking camera with a long lens can be a blessing - or not. You're right about the "shoot and shoot some more." Experiment, too, and make your purchases wisely.

I am a novice, to many things to learn on a day to day basis, although I do teach a class it seems as though my students become the teacher many times over.

Nikon has a new 300mm that is available in black or gray.

When I'm carrying my Nikon D300 with the 70-200 f/2.8 lens and the Nikon D700 with the 17-35 f/2.8 I've been mistaken for a professional. After bypassing a number of shots in Central Park (NYC) because I didn't want to change lenses on the fly, I decided that two cameras was the solution. I always answer, "No, I'm just a hobbyist."

So if a photographer made 100% of his income by his photography he's a pro, now if he retires then what?...
Then he's a retired professional?

i will keep my day job and look to retiring in 23 months. while 60% of my day job is photography.................i do the side photography jobs on evenings and weekends.

in todays world....i don't think i would want to be a pro photographer because it has to be way toooooo tuff to make a living....as everybody has a dslr and the presumption is that everyone that has a dslr is a "pro". seems everybody is interested in candid shots...just mediocre stuff. i have showed great photos to clients and a lot of them pickout some oddball thing off the contact sheet that i would never have picked. i always put 10-12 average shots on a contact sheet to make the great ones stand out. 7 out of 10 go nuts over one of the "fill" photos. i don't know, but it's kinda disheartening. i am building up quite a clientele...but since i don't do it for a living ir as my main job..i can choose or pick the jobs.
my hat goes off to these great photographers that do it for a living!!! they have earned every cent they made.

i have learned a new description off this post.....a "glorified amateur" .....i like that. i may put that on my biz card.

That's the truth. The person that says they know all there is to know about photography is full of themselves. Pro or not :)

I also freelance. I do photography of my town and sell quite a few of my photos. However, I do not consider myself a professional doing that. It is a hobby. I am a glorified amateur in my opinion. But, is that just the way I see myself as a photographer, or am I professional?

Interesting question, huh?[/quote]

Of course your a professional, end of story.

So what, you love your job, dont feel guitly, you are blessed.

Receive and give God, thanks!
