Please murder to dissect. Is there anything I have missed or that does no look right? I am too close to see. Feel free to make changes and post.

It was a pull the SX50 out of the bag and shoot. Had not expected a great subject. The busy passage way had a momentary lull. Light was not perfect, used flash, so post was required.

I rarely photograph people under any circumstances so the only thing I'll mention re technique is I'm impressed how well the flash did (and/or your pp)!

For emotional response, I'm drawn to the bright colors of the setting, the details of the sax, the musician's intense posture. I very much like the tight framing and that this is all about a man and his music.

Very enjoyable photo, D!

Considering the circumstances you describe its pretty darn good young fella. Might try a BW when Mrs Billys strong pull on my time wanes later in the day.
Now some would say his eyes show concentration and his posture is all about the music, but ol' Billy knows better. The eyes always give you away. That dude is stoned off his head so I am shocked to realise such a fine upstanding citizen as you would frequent a place where the band enjoy a recreational smoke. Hope they offered you some but keep it off these pages huh. The locals are more into biblical quotes and suchlike.

Accepting Billy's diagnosis, what's a kid like you doing in a place like that?
I don't think anyone should want to remake your picture though, and I never
do that anyway. You oughta be responsible for whatever you did. One thing you did
though, direct flash on a subject close to a background makes shadow. It's supposed to
ruin your reputation. Instead, you have great 3-d-lookin' contrast. Then you got the guy's
whole head in without chopping it half off, that's quite refreshing; the whole long musical
instrument as well. You must have a really great camera. Doesn't look like you spoiled dinner either.
Uh, that was not your flash, Phil's? (I won't tell)

Cracking job! I don't own a flash and generally don't miss it, but this shows the value of having one to hand if you know what you're doing. Have you adjusted the shadow to reduce its impact? I'd expect it to be harsher and that's what I'd object to, but here it doesn't distract at all.
Edit: Or have you removed the original shadow and provided a light one for effect?

Since you're asking us to nit-pick, his complexion doesn't look right to me. It looks like it's been waaaay over-softened, beard an' all, and the colour doesn't look right. I got the colour looking a bit more realistic by desaturating red and orange a bit, but it still looks unreal. His eyes look a bit re-constructed, so presumably the quality of the original wasn't great....

Good grief... gettin old... forgot I posted it.... Thanks Linda for reminding me..... and thanks everyone for the comments... Yes, the natural light coming thru the windows also cause coloring from the walls... I had to do a lot of color manipulation ... the hands were very light and there were areas on the face that looked like he had makeup on.. which he may have... when people were coming out of a meeting all well dressed with suits and ties... well when a group was in sight I dropped a $5 bill in his collection and with that it stimulated the suits to follow suit.... he made out well.... Yes, note his eyes were focused on the suits coming down the passage way to the parking garage.

I searched back and found an early rendition. R.G. The face and neck did not match and the hands did not match either. The shirt was burned by the flash so I had a lot of matching to do yet still have uniformity... as I recall I shot both raw and jpeg.. my standard on the SX50... so the shirt was darkened with raw processing and two photo cloned over to give definition to the white of the sweat shirt. Fought with this photo many hours... and at one point thought about giving up... but not so bad... did not do it all at once. The redness in eyes was painted white... Allergies no doubt. The background paint was faded and so I had to paint the color in especially the black which in part had flaked off.

The flash is a fill flash on the SX50. I recall when learning the SX50, the flash would not open automatically like on my Sony DSLR... So I asked a Canon shooter... he smiled and reached out with his thumb nail!! OH! it is not automatic. The SX50 with is very small sensor take photos better than they should be. It is one of the $150 Canon 14000 recalls based on the rubber eye pad. That cost Canon a lot of money. I bought two.

magnetoman, there were strong lights in passage way and also day light from the rt side of the photo. The flash on the SX50 is not a strong one, but I believe it is adjustable. This little camera thinks it is it's big brother. Also one can add features with "http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/SX50"

Again thank you all, especially Linda for pulling my chain with a Private Message.

Thanks for all the additional info, D. It's very helpful, especially for those with the "wanna be big brother" cameras I have mostly used my sx50 for far-distant eagles and bighorn sheep, and I agree, that with good light and focus, the results are more than satisfactory.

While this is an excellent capture. The composition is exceptionally well done, although, I'm gonna have to agree with R.G. the skin has no texture and appears to be overworked.

Well ya did say edit and post! In the spirit of FYC a few textures added here and there and of course to show real experimental thinking at work the ol' musical texture came out of the paint box. Man I just love those textures dont you? More of a pikcha now than a fota but who the heck is counting huh
Conversion sorta reveals how hard you worked up dem pixels in the original which not even texture can hide my ol pal.

Norman is a brush free zone at present, he took himself off to the feline beauty parlor and had his split ends teased and then a thick coat of furry texture applied. He thinks its cool but the jury is still considering their verdict. Influenced by some website he has been surfing he went for for the thick and in ya face texture look.

Oh such vain pursuits, the poor boy, they oughtta make that stuff illegal!
Maybe we all need to put a security lock on the computer when we go to bed.
Only some odd nocturnal spree let's hope, but him getting involved with nocturnal
types who do things like that, and no restraint whatever, needs some parental
intervention and guidance. Maybe there's some group therapy place nearby...

Oui, you missed somethin', it was the post previous? Norm never had a beard.
BTW, please excuse me about the fuzzy shack, didn't mean any harm, seen
through tears remembering my own lost dreams that you called up, it just
wasn't clear to me...I don't really plan a lawsuit either, it was just a passing
thought, been watching too many news headlines lately maybe...makes me
feel sad though to get misrepresented as it happens a lot.
