Many thanks
As a C-130 A and E qualified engineer during the Vietnam war seen many ways that aircraft was abused and kept right on ticking.

The Hercules C-130 was my regular mode of transportation shuttling all over the Med as a Navy photographer and aircrewman. I never thought twice about the safety of this fantastically versatile bird. My only complaint was that I usually wound up seated under a compressor pump that dripped condensation on my head.
On one long C-130 flight I had my feet propped up on a crate being carried as cargo and was reading a magazine. The Navy chaplain seated next to me laughed and pointed to the crate my feet were on. He said, "You're very causual about this aren't you." I didn't know what he meant. He pointed to the crate. Inside was a nuclear bomb...

I was in the USAF 1958-1962 and happened to walk under a B-52 and looked up.
It's an weird feeling to see the Nukes in it's bomb bay.

I remember back during the Vietnamese war, A friend of mine who was a pilot on a C-130, said that one time when they were headed back to the states that the whole crew fell asleep and when they woke up, they found themselves flying over Idaho when they were supposed to land in S. California. So they had to turn around and eventually got to their airfield. I've since forgotten what field it was.

Having flown it on four occasions, I am afraid I
cannot agree with the opening title, its a fabulous
aircraft to fly, not quite a fighter though, but it
does it's job.
Thank you for the link, most interesting.

You must not have seen "Puff" at work. Or combat Talon or Combat Sent.
Please don't laugh but back around 1967 when I was in the Air Force, the outfit I was assigned to had to fly around inside of C-124 Globe Masters (AKA OLD SHACKY ). After 12hour flights inside one, both your hearing and skin sensory perception would be off for a day or so. One day upon arriving at the flight line for flight, there was no C-124 in sight, but a lone C-130 was visible. Yup our ride! Yup, we thought we were in heaven and were in
a Cadillac ! Smoother, faster and quitter, our lives had been improved greatly.
