Upgrade to a Nikon D7000

I currently have a Nikon D60 w/ 18-55 and 55-200 lenses. I was looking to upgrade from there with possibly a D7000. Does anyone have any thoughts on this and any suggestions/comments on the D7000? Is Nikon planning an upgrade to the D7000 or even the D5100 soon?

I've read rumors & I use a D7000 but can't imagine any improvements that would make me want to wait. If you shoot a lot of movies, there is a possibility it will have a swiveling screen. The D7000 is a great camera. FWIW, I also use a D700. The D7000 is just sbout as good for most of the things I shoot.

I didn't realize just how good the D7000 was when I got mine. By using it and playing around with the settings and reading what people on this forum have to say about it, I know I made the right choice. Nikon will have a successor - someday. But why wait?

Two weeks ago I sold my D80 and bought a D7000 body. Amazing. To many improvements and features to list. Strongly suggest David Busch's D7000 guide. Read before using.

I am still not sure how to do this -- to reply, so this may be on here twice! Sorry! But anyway, I wanted to tell you that I did the same thing you are describing -- went from a Nikon D60 to the Nikon D7000 - absolutely LOVE the camera!!

I went from a Nikon D70 to a 5100. Love them both. Haven't checked out the 7000 yet, but if/when I do I will probably add that to everything else. Then I'd have to consider which lens to use, etc. Good luck to you!! 8-)

I've read a fair amount about the D7000 and plan for that to be my next choice, with luck in July/August. I'm upgrading from a D50. I also purchased Busch's manual on the D7000, and his field guide (if that's what it's called).

The D50 has been very good, but I plan to expand my shooting and the D7000 seems to be the tool to help me do that.

I researched the 7000 quite a bit prior to getting my 7D. If I didn't have a load of Canon lenses, I think I could of gone with the 7000. It does seem likely that Nikon will probably announce a "7100", but the 7000 as it sits now seems to be a pretty darn good camera and I'm pretty sure I'd of been very happy with it. The specs are great at the price point.

Thanks for the feedback, I think i'll be looking into getting the D7000 soon. Does anyone know how many shutter actuations one can expect to get from it, just a thought incase a good deal comes up on one used or refurbed.

Fred....you know better than to plop down a question like that without giving us details as to what kind of images you like taking. It does matter, not a whole heck of alot to some, but hey...details.

150,000. Of course that's not carved in stone. http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/D7000/D7000A.HTM

Know that the D5100 has exactly the same sensor so unless you need some feature the D7000 has (e.g. it is more rugged) you can save half your money and take the same pics. Costco has a great price on the D5100 kit right now. I think this predicts a D5200 soon.

The D7000 is an even older model so I expect a D7100 soon also.

I have a D5000 and upgraded to the D7000. It is definitely a superior camera, and I would think the gap is even more noticeable if you are upgrading from a prior model.

BTW, I have Busch's book for the D5000, and the Magic Lantern for the D7000. Although the Busch one is good, I like the organization and information in the Magic Lantern one better.

I believe that getting the "newest toy on the block" doesn't matter one bit. Learn to use what you currently have, and then master it. Move on from there when you can honestly say it's time. I know quite a few people who have gone out, bought the latest and greatest image-taking item out there, and they don't know Jack about settings, dof, the bare basics. ( Mainly family, friends, and neighbors.) Although yes, sure, a decent camera can make any talking monkey capture good images....if you don't know what the h*** you're doing, why bother? Good luck to all! 8-)
