Always with the personal attacks. If you haven't figured it out,Hal made the Hillary reference, but you're such a pantload you'd never admit to being just an ignorant sap. Remember when I used to refer to you as a little fly? You know, something that buzzes around, eats shit and annoys people? You're just a little dumber now. Have a nice day. Always a pleasure. Go screw yourself....

What you may not know is that the first thing in the morning the president has a briefing on what is going on in the world. He also has a team of advisers that hash over all the details. In the end it is his decision. The American people are not aware of all those reasons for those decisions. I wonder if you would have questioned any of those decisions if Hillary would have been in office??
He probably knows that. Although I think the majority of Americans are not upset that a horrible despot was spanked, there are clearly two issues causing concern in different quarters - both of them are valid concerns. Members of congress of both parties are upset that the President did not seek there counsel and consent before doing this. But of course, Obama did that, and congress refused to take any responsibility one way or the other. Who would imagine our politicians could be hypocrites? The other valid concern is by those who supported Trump for his promises of isolationism. He was one of the loudest voices arguing against Obama being involved in Syria. Obviously it is a surprise and setback to these supporters to have Trump now attack Syria.

A thoughtful response, though I think you were saying that Obama sought a vote from Congress over military action (in Libya, Somalia, Isis, Syria) and did not get it. I thought the complaint was that he did
not seek approval from Congress before embarking on his military actions.
Trouble is, America cannot be isolationist because so many things overseas could affect America. Take. North Korea. They will soon have a nuke and a missile that could reach the West coast of America. As long as America is in NATO Russia.must pose a threat.China could threaten America's interests in the east .Trump is facing reality.Election promises are all very well but the bombing of Syria was good because America's enemies will seize on any weakness.
In this ever more dangerous world, America can not afford to be isolationist.
With any nation able to reek nuclear havoc, think North Korea, it is in everyones interest to have allies.
Allies who, hopefully, will make any country think 100 times before sending nukes anywhere because they know the combined weight of the allies of that country will come after them.
If we all stand alone, we will all die alone.
I undersond he had them bombed because Ivanka was upset about the gassing of the children. Guess just plain ole bombing of them has been ok because a boatload of them has died since his inauguration.

The country is split about 50/50 on Trump's decision to "fire ze missiles!" ... for those that support that decision, and Rex's supporting statements demanding a regime change in Syria and saying that no violence against civilians anywhere will go unpunished...
How do you reconcile that with a president who campaigned on a pledge to avoid getting bogged down in foreign conflicts and prioritize making "America Great Again"?
He maybe doesn't see trying to stop "violence against civilians" and getting bogged down in "foreign conflicts" as being the same.
In that air operations resumed from that airfield just 48 hours after the missiles shows that the attack did not achieve any strategic objective. So as a practical matter it falls into the 'rearrange the Titanic deck chairs' category. While Trump himself shouldn't be expected to have fully thought out the operation with natively possessed insight, his advisors can be faulted for not assessed all the angles. In any given situation both the strategy and tactics need careful consideration as there will always be consequences, both short and long term. This incident shows the competence of the Trump administration. The last thing to short change is the presumed intelligience of our adversaries.

You don't think that the missile attack sent a message to Assad? If it didn't why are he and the Russians warning us against further aggression? Perhaps you can explain to me what Trump's objectives were?
I think his objective was to show what could happen. And we did it with the least amount of casualties possible.

The missiles were unlikely to close down the airfield. It was a timely gesture to show Russia that the US still has teeth. There is no point in praising or castigating Trump. As a British politician once said, It is curcumstances dear boy, circumstances.

This may be well and good, but nobody has addressed Green's original question about why are people okay with Trump saying during the campaign that he was going to stay out of the Syrian conflict? In fact he pretty much campaigned on an isolationist position.

Exactly! If this doesn't show Trump voters once and for all that they were conned by a pathological liar who has no real positions or principles, and just spouts whatever he thinks will bamboozle people in the moment to get their votes or manipulate them, then I don't know what will.
