The Moon

This one is for all of the people who wonder how to take a photo of the moon. Here is how easy it is ... I got out my biggest lens and my tripod and took a picture. ISO=800 > f 5.6 > 1/3200. It was dark out, my camera had those settings, I got an image and came back in. Those are the details for my shot. There a ton of fairly common ISO's and shutter speeds and apertures that will do the job. To get a simple shot of the moon there is no need to have a long exposure. There is no problem with the moon moving. I suggest to all those people who come on to this site and ask how to do it ...... GO OUT and just take a picture; you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Very nice! Here is an HDR version that I took a few weeks back. I combined three photos -- one 1 stop underexposed, one with recommended exposure, and one 1 stop overexposed.

EW shame on you; we can't download that! Howard, you have the exposure equivalent set at 1.4 and it shouldn't work but it does, congrats! But f5.6 is too large for a field of focus that big, do you know what I mean. You need to work out a formula for f9, f11, f16, or even f22. There are 2400 new impact craters or marks that don't even show in the image. I know I will get reamed for that but, your focus was not that good. I tried tonight and not one turned out, so.

EW .... What Outback was referring to is a rule stating that it is impolite to put your images onto someone else's thread without the Original Poster's (Me) permission. I forgive you. No problem. If you do it again I may have to send a few of my boys over to explain it to you in person :-)

You are correct, my focus could have been better; I did not try for the best photo. I was only trying to make a point to those people who have written to this forum asking how to get a simple shot of the moon. There is usually a question about the moon moving! I used the setting that were on the camera and took a picture. To get a more detailed image, I would have payed attention to the settings - I didn't and even then I got a decent image. My point was - IT'S NOT HARD TO DO, just go out and give it a try. You will improve by doing it.
