The clouds bother me. They roll on forever, we know they'€™re there, we expect them, but we don'€™t see them, that is we don't dwell on them, they'€™re just there and yet, because of their contrast and motion they suck energy and distract from seeing what's on the ground. The viewer's attention is pulled up by the clouds while the water hurries him into the next county and the grass and trees don'€™t get much attention. Maybe kicking up the contrast in the grasses and trees - exaggerate and simplify - would pull the viewer's eyes out of the clouds. As they are- the grasses and trees- they're like a drive across Texas- lots of potential but not much actual entertainment. Give the viewer a reason to look into the grass, to see texture and color and shading and variety... and not just blow on down river looking for adventure elsewhere... in my opinion...

I had to laugh at the "drive across Texas" metaphor. Mississippi is much the same. Almost interesting but not quite!

Your edits are always so interesting, and moreso because they illustrate certain artistic principles. I admit to being seduced by clouds as a diversion from flat numbing landscapes. You've given me a different view. Thank you!!

This particular OP enjoys edits, displays and discussions of my images! Always feel free to show something on any of my threads.

Take the branch and the house out. They are distracting. Lovely color, composition, light.

Thank you for responding. I just wondered if you have seen your photo without the dead tree on the right or left. Just a thought, before finally making up your mind which version you prefer.

One last thing... the horizon may not be flat; it seems to curve downward- frownward, some say- at the ends. The right side doesn't matter but that on the left makes me anxious.

OK. Here's a version without the branch or the bird blind.

I am not sure yet whether I like it better or not, it certainly looks more "traditional". Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Good to see you back on the section!

I just posted a version with no "bookends" -(actually it was the first version I came up with, then....)

RG had pointed out that the pano made it a little humped up. I will have to dip back into PS to fix that hump!

Ah! Yes, that is what it is now, more traditional and I like it.

Taking it further, the clouds looks as though they have been over processed, although well done of course, but for me they don't look natural. As you don't mind seeing other versions of your photos, perhaps one of the members who are good at clouds would have a go.

It is very kind of you to let others play with your photos without getting annoyed.

The shared work is a lot of what keeps me coming back to FYC, I learn a lot from what others do, whether I change my own favorite version or not. I never get annoyed at any shared work done in good faith, and that's certainly what we have here almost all the time.

Yes, it is my favourite section too and I am looking and learning.

I am so please that the year has started well and there are good vibes coming through. Long may it continue to be a pleasant section to visit this year.

Have a good day,

Heather

A Pano of 4 shots. All comments, suggestions, edits appreciated. Also - Don't know if the piece of the bird blind and dead tree on the right should stay or go.

Minnie, a lovely image to view !!! IMO, the bird blind removed with the branch still in view, and the image flipped is more pleasing to my eyes. A pano of 4 shots appears to be a well done task where if not mentioned, I would have never known. Practice does make perfect and it shows here.

I have to agree with Dave on this one. I too prefer the branches without the bird blind and the flip on this shot. Not that your last posted shot of the more "traditional" shot is anything to sneeze at.

Thank you! I'm rethinking my plan on this one with all the good input I've had.
