I'm not really an audiophile, but I do appreciate good gear for listening to music and can generally tell the difference between a decent set of headphones or earbuds from a a cheap Walmart set. Well, my Klipsch x11i ear buds finally crapped out after a couple of years of heavy use and were not really repairable. I had thought I might just get another set of x11i, or maybe pop for the newer x12i. However, Klipsch has a new flagship in-ear monitor (high-end ear buds), the x20i. These were selling for $550 when I first saw them online, which I could not bring myself to spend. But recently the price dropped by $110 and, while they were still very expensive compared to the $349 (now $279) x12i, I decided to try these x20is.
Wow! That's al I can say. My x11is sounded great, but these things are on a whole different level, seriously. I have almost 10,000 songs in my High Def library and listen with a FiiO X5 through a FiiO E12 Amp and these things are unreal! There are little nuances in songs that I never knew were there. The music is in your head, not in your ears.
So, if there are any of you who are music lovers and appreciate quality sound, I'd rate these Klipsch x20is at 10+
No thanks... in my mind that's comparable to paying $200,000 for a car.
Other than money is there any reason not to have $500 earbuds or $200,000 cars?
Many of us (I for one), wouldn't pay $200,000 for a car, but spending $440 (ironically, Walmart's current price) for maximizing my pleasure in listening to great music fidelity would be a steal. I guess it's a matter of priorities. I have MEE Audio M6 Pro In-Ear Monitors ($50 at Walmart). I love em, but I may not know what I'm missing. "Sounds" as if you've made a great, and wise purchase!
I've tried a lot of the in ear buds, nothing satisfied me until I went custom molded from Alien Ears. I'm not a professional musician or singer, but these are amazing. Use them on every flight.

Agreed!
Consider that people on this forum spend $3,500 for a camera and $2,400 for a lens to take pictures of a flower in their back yard. Nothing wrong with that - it's their money and how they spend it is their business. If you can afford what you want and it fits your priorities .....

That's a good comparison LOL. Believe it or not the $440 the Klipsch X20i in-ear monitors are now selling for is on the low-end of the scale when it comes to high-end ear buds. The Shure SE846-CL on Amazon ring in at $999, for example.
