My name is T'Xuan, I live in Alexandria, Virginia.
I joined UHH more than six months. I have been reading everyday this site, never missed a day. I learned a lot from all of you.
I love photography. I remember my first camera that I used in 1953 was Rolerflex, double lenses. Then later I used Nikon. Last year I bought D90 with kit lens (18-105mm). I love it until the more and more I compare my photos with the photos post in UHH site, I think I should upgrade my D90 in order to get better photos as yours. Would you please recommend which camera and lenses should I buy.
Thank you all very much

Unless you spend a lot of money the D90 should provide first class pictures.Spend the money on a good lens

Welcome to the forum. Ditto what Viscountdriver said. Many people here use the D90 and produce superb quality work.

Remember, it's not the equipment that produces good work, it's the artist.

Thanks

Are you looking to add another lens to your equipment bag or replace the kit lens? What do you plan to do with it and when is your 'trip'??

Hi T'Xuan

Let's try it this way. I'll give you the line-up of lenses I have and why I got them. I'll leave the rest of the research and decision of what to get to you.

I don't have exact numbers for my lenses since they're at home and I'm at work, but to the best of my memory, I have:

1) Nikor 28 to 80 zoom - this is may "standard" lens since it fits in my bag on the camera and can do almost anything except far off scenes and really close up. I bought this lens when I bought the camera body

2) Nikor 14-24 Wide angle - for those scenes where I want to get a lot in. I've found the parallax error pretty high on this one though, so I'm usually using it on the longer half of the range

3) Nikor 80-400 telephoto - got this for those long shots and for a safari scheduled later this year. I find this lens slow in getting focus, finicky and generally hard to work with. It's also heavy but has a tripod mount bracket on it. (the center of balance with a body attached is near the back of the lense) But it can sure pull in that far-off scene. (I may sell this one at some point and buy something different to replace it)

4) Nikor macro lens - obviously for the up close and personal shots with bugs, dandruff and snowflakes.

So, like I did as I purchased my different lenses, you need to decide what you're trying to accomplish and then look for the lens that will help you get there. Research online, talk to your local camera store owner, ask friends/UHH acquaintances, etc.

Good luck - show us what you've done so far, or an example of what you're hoping to improve on with the new lens(es).
