At least you're shooting medium format....and now large?
I saw my YashicaMat yesterday.

;-)
After I take possession of it later this spring/summer, and then restore it. I know the bellows will need to be replaced, but I'm not sure about the rest. I know the shutter works, but I don't know about the lens condition. Needless to say, It's going to be a new adventure.

I had the 6x7 version of this camera with a 65mm lens. It was unbelievable in its rendering...sharp, with an almost real life quality. If the price is good, I'd grab it.

I no longer have it or the pictures I took with it...I got rid of it when my kids were born 25 years ago.

Sorry, I was trying to infer that the OP should post a link to the one they were considering to buy ;-)

I have a Fuji 6x9 with a 90mm lens. Beautiful camera, though the range finder takes some getting used to, especially if you want to shoot people fly on the wall. I use it mainly for landscape, b&w. Makes beautiful 16x20 prints. Fuji makes great lenses. I'm sure you'd be happy with the wide angle.

I would like to converse with any UHH member who uses or has used the Fuji 6x9 film camera, particularly anyone who has experience with this rangefinder camera that was offered with the 65mm wide angle lens.

You can either post here on UHH, or send me a private message about your experiences with it.

I am interested because I am interested in buying such a camera. This camera is often called the Texas Leica. One of my biggest questions is about the optical quality of the 65mm lens. Will this give me landscape pictures that match or even come close to matching those that would be taken on contemporary medium format digital cameras?

I look forward to hearing from anyone who owns or has had experience with this largest format film camera.

The proper nomenclature for the latest BTL with EBC coated lenses (superb by the way) is the GSW690III. THE S Being the key operative letter on the 65mm Wide Angle. (fixed). The older interchangeable lenses were NOT EBC coated, but good lenses in their own right.

I bought a GSW690III from a fellow in Portland. The best images I see collected in one place are images he shot on a cross country trip and posted on PBase data.

Here is a link to the Neon Highways Pbase album posted by Don Metz.

One of these pics is called Kent Diner. It's about 70 miles from where I live, and we used to stop there for GAS and Burgers a couple of times a year traveling to my grandparents in NE Oregon. (Or, as my dad used to say "Lets stop for GAS and GAS"... best burgers ever)

As I said, these pics clinched the buy on the model III, because it was the 65mm lens, and I wanted to shoot wide.

There are original GSW, GSW690II and GSW690III. The GW models are fixed 90 mm.

I used to own the original Fuji Texas Leica, with a 90mm F3.5 lens; I used this camera for nearly ten years. I can only say it was superb- you won't beat that lens; Fuji lenses are probably the equal of Leica any day !

I've measured all these out for MF and for large format 4X5

Relative to 35mm frame size.

645 film size is 2.8 times the size of the 35mm frame
690 film size is 4.7 times the size of the 35mm frame
4X5 inch film size is 13 times the size of the 35mm frame.

I've done others like 6X12mm pano, 6X14, pano and 6X17 pano.

I have the Fuji GW690iii, and have used it only for my "carry around" medium format. For landscapes I use a Mamiya RB67 with a couple of different lenses, so I can't really attest to the Fuji's ability for landscape work. I can tell you that the Fuji images have a "feel" to them that I can't get with the Mamiya. The lens is superb, and the camera is lots of fun to use. You should see the looks on people's faces when you pull that out of your camera bag on the street.

I have just had the brief chance to play with a friends new Fuji GFX 50S digital medium format, and have seen some of his work with it, and I can say that I'm very impressed with the output of that new camera. Does it compare to my film medium format images? We shoot different styles of work, but it would be VERY hard to attain the technical quality of that new Fuji with anything I have. The detail in his images are amazing.

The look between our two medium format images is different. I don't know how else to describe it...just different.

I am a film shooter and have several film cameras of which one is the Fuji 6x9 wide (65mm).
I have retained this camera over the years because of the many great landscape photographs it has produced. they are always sharp (used with a tripod) and the lens has great contrast.

Have not used the camera but a 65mm lens on a 6 X 9 film or sensor sized camera is probably a normal to slightly telephoto lens. Usually to shoot landscapes, one wants a wide angle lens. I can tell you that the quality of the photo will blow out a digital medium format sensor, assuming the same quality lens is used. Digital is getting closer to film quality, but still has not gotten there yet.

Normal for 6X9 is (exactly) 108.1mm (what's "usually considered normal is 105mm). the 65mm is the equivalent on 35mm as approximately 26mm.

I have not shot with this camera - tho, it is on my bucket list ! - I have shot a lot of wide angle 6X9 film tho. One thing I will say is you will need a good tripod, cable release, and wind-less days to do any serious landscape work. For DOF you will want to be at f11 - and if you use a polarizer, that makes it almost f22 - so in bright sunlight, with ASA 100 film your shutter speed will be around 1/50th.

I have shot with all versions of the Fuji 645 series and and I am very impressed with their lenses !

65mm is close to a 28mm on a, (ahem) so-called full-frame camera, so it's what I would consider wide angle.
(I'm awake, but not had my coffee so a little slow on the draw. RWR must get up early!)

Yeah, he's ahead of us all today. When I wrote that I was figuring in my head. I had an RB 67 years ago and the normal lens for that was considered either the 90mm or the 105mm, so I woulds think the 6 X ( would be a higher lens. i figured all this in my head and apparently had a brain fart at the end miss figured the 65mm lens. Chalk one up for a good cup of java.
