The TSA did not steal the cash. A dishonest employee did. As far as you not coming to the US, good. Stay where you are. We don't want you.

Much of Europe is infested with pickpockets. I guess I shouldn't visit Europe because of that?

I have to use the tsa locks in work I don't like it but as you said there is no real alternative. A baggage handler has sufficient time to 'loose' a bag to unlock. My equipment is in a pretty nondescript case so it is not obvious and pray it does not get swiped

Best security for your checked camera equipment? Check a handgun in same baggage (where possible... obviously not international flights!) That is not getting opened by anybody...

Yeah, I was just reading about how most of the thieves in the world were in the US. I believe that the vast majority are actually in public office or legal professions. Often the two are hand in hand.

You probably read that in some snobby publication from France (sarcasm). Not sarcasm ->I have travelled the world (Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and the Americas), and there are thieves in all countries, in all governments and in all airports. None are without blemishes, so to state what you did is either sarcasm that I do not recognize or a bogus statement that shows that you fell for some false story.

I am from Europe too, now living in the US. If you think incidence of theft in airports is any less in any European country than it is here then you are a moron

This is getting ridiculous. This a photography site, not a rant and wave. Go to craigslist and post your bullshit!

I am traveling to Norway from Wisconsin in four weeks so this post is somewhat alarming.

I will have 20K in equipment with some in carry on but most in a pelican with TSA locks checked in.

My question is on Insurance... has anyone found anything worth purchasing for baggage that actually covers the contents full value?

As an option I'm exploring "shipping" the bag so I can insure it properly but I'm not sure if that is the best method at this point.

Thank you for any help or comments...

I would guess baggage handlers as well. I just returned from Molokai, one of the least touristed (and most strikingly beautiful) of the Hawaiian islands. I used Kolumbo locks - one of the highest rated I could find. Everything went well until we left Molokai. The airport is tiny, no passenger jets, and only one TSA gate. I watched my checked bag go through screening, watched it be opened and manually searched, and finally watched it get relocked, put on the baggage trolley, and then on the small prop plane. You are so close to the process you can keep close track. When we landed in Honolulu, I watched the bag go on the trolley and in to the inter island terminal. In less than 3 minutes, I was picking my bag off the conveyer. The lock was gone, but nothing else was stolen. The same thing happened two years earlier upon leaving Molokai (yes, I dearly love that place) with a Tumi lock and again, nothing else was stolen. My theory is that some baggage handler for Ohana has a collection of TSA locks that he adds to when he sees new designs or different locks. In my opinion, the TSA folks had nothing to do with the lock theft. I would be very reluctant to check photo gear without great insurance and without carrying the filled cards on my person. I too, would like to know if the person who initiated this string had any suggestions.
