I use Nikon's wireless remote. It has an Fn button, in the custom control menu there is a setting, I think g13, that control it in an 800, I don't remember what it is in my 7100. The 800 has a separate menu item for the remote so you can use the Fn button on the body for something else when you have it in your hands, 7100 has just 1 setting for remote and on body button. Hope this helps.

Sounds good, thank you! My wife commandeered my D7100 and remote. Doesn't fit my D500 or 810 anyway. The required Nikon cable release MC-30A for those cameras also only has a single button as well as the Vello Shutterboss Version II remote. Are you using the Nikon ML-3 or WR-R10 with WR-T10?

I have the WR-R10. The cool thing is that the receiver plugs directly into the 7100's mini connector, and the set that B&H was selling came with an adapter that uses the 10 pin connector on the 800. No problem switching back and forth, I love it.

I think you have the WR-R10 with WR-T10. The only down side to me is that the R10 plugs into an accessory port which may preclude my using the L-bracket on both cameras, not a lot of room. Any first hand knowledge would be appreciated.

My last post was formulated before your last post was received. So you do not use the accessory port on the 800 and have an adapter to the 10-pin instead. P/N?

The remote plugs into the 800 on the front of the body and it isn't even as big as a CF card, don't know where the connector is on a 500 or 810. Although I don't use one, I don't think an L-bracket would be a problem if the connector is in the same place.

The same remote is used for the D800,D500 and D810 as far as I can determine. I just found what you have and it is the package with the WR-A10 adapter. I appreciate your patience and help! If I opt to go this route, I would have to train another finger to use the FN button or re assign back to AF-ON when I'm not using the remote. My arthritic fingers are even slower than me!

BTW, I also have a ML-L3 ir that works well with the D7100 and it's cheap for Nikon!

only reason to use a shutter release would be for still subjects. Just focus with BB and use shutter release when you want to take the shot.

That is seemingly true, but arthritis and varying numbness in an index finger that has difficulty locating the button makes one search for more stability.

If you want the camera to autofocus while using a remote release, you will need to temporarily turn off BBF (by re-enabling AF at the shutter release button).

This is the right answer.

If I am using back button focusing on a Canon 7D Mark ll how would I use an electronic shutter release? Thanks

You have to change it back to normal shutter release to use the electronic release.

Not so with the Nikon wireless, the only thing you have to do is set the REMOTE Fn to Autofocus. Everything related to the body stays the same. When you have the body in your hands BBF stays the same as always.

thanks for posting this. Im old school and press half-way to get focus (center focus point nearly always), then compose and shoot. now that is really old school so many of you that missed the days of FILM will not even know WTF Im talking about. will find a tutorial out there to set up back focusing (or break out the manual!). my guess is I will end up with my old ways.

Push the button. Read your instruction book.

You pre focus with the back button and then use the remote to release the shutter. Just as if you back button focused and used the onboard shutter release.
I have a Canon 7D MK II, and it works that way. It should work the same for all which have a back button focus set.
