If I am using back button focusing on a Canon 7D Mark ll how would I use an electronic shutter release? Thanks

On my T1i I focus (manually or BBF) then click the shutter with the remote release.

I'm not sure but I think you have to set your camera in auto mode. I think when you go to auto mode your BBF is off and you are back to the shutter exposure mode. Give it a try and let me know.....Rich

If you want the camera to autofocus while using a remote release, you will need to temporarily turn off BBF (by re-enabling AF at the shutter release button).

Why don't you just try it and see how it works?

Technically, BBF usually involves disabling the 1/2 press AF on the shutter button. Wireless Shutter release activates the same process as depressing the shutter button....it will activate the IS on the lens but will not focus if the 1/2 press focus is disabled from the shutter button.

If you are doing a "still" shot, focus with the back button, release it and fire when ready. Focus will be locked.

That's what a sensible person would do but the dumb ones do things differently!

You may enjoy yours skills more appropriately in the Attic.

I'm a Nikon user, so this might not work for Canon. There is a menu item that lets you use the Fn button on the remote to turn on auto focus. There might be something like it in your Canon settings.

Yes, I've been using it since I bought my F5. Once you get used to it you will never go back.

I use it as well and was thinking that the button assignment will not be of any use for remote use,or am I missing something. The button still has to be manually pushed for focus and then the remote can be used.
