looking to upgrade canon 18-135mm kit lens?

considering upgrade for landscape,travelaround use etc. would like canon lens in L series or a recommendation of a sharp third party lens (comparable in sharpness). Looking at c anon 24-105mm lens. Thanks for your help?

For what body?
On a crop body I feel the 24-105 is not wide enough for some general purpose use - It is a great lens on a full frame body.

The 24-105 F4 IS L is a great all round lens, It is on my camera 70% of the time. It is sharp, fast to focus (depending on camera body) and has a great focal range and is an L lens. If you need a wider lens there is the 10-18 mm which is very affordable as a second lens.

yes I have a crop body and it would seem like I lose too much from the wide angle side! Thanks for the comment.

My cousin in Alaska has the 24-105L and loves it.

18-250. I did not SAY it was good/better....I said it was "on there" 90% of the time. "Good" only matters if a person cares. I'm not looking for "goodness" more for cost and $$$ to by other lenses. That and my Sigma 17-50 is the only 2 I have. Photography for me is a hobby....NOT my whole life!

Yes, but you weren't answering the OPs question. He wasn't looking for a different lens, he was looking for a better lens.

Which 18-135 lens do you have? Canon has made 3 of them. If you have your heart set on a Canon L lens for landscape and general walk around, there really aren't any other choices than the 24-105. Sure there is the far superior 24-70 f/2.8, but it's very expensive, heavy, and has an even more limited focal range. Personally, I would find 24 mm not wide enough on a crop camera, but many people happily live with it.

Perhaps you could explain why you don't find the EF-S 18 - 135 good enough on your 70D.
It is a fairly decent lens with a very versatile range for the money.
What doesn't it do that you need or want?

The 24 - 105 is wide enough if you pair it with the 10 -22!
