I need to get a newer version of Adobe Elements 11 due to my Nikon D5500, when I shot Raw, not being recognized by version 11. My question is are their any problems transferring my albums/files to the new version 15? 11 was the only version I ever had.
Thanks for any responses.

You should not have a problem. I updated from v12 to v15 with no issues.

I went from Elements 11 to 14 from an old PC to a new one with little hastle. Ran a full backup to an external drive, then restored that to my new C: drive. Be sure to remember that you're only going to restore the photos that are in the Elements catalogue. If you're not changeing PC's, this should not be a problem because you can always import them any time. When I changed PC's I lost a few that weren't already in my catalogue. No big deal because they were either repeats or rejects that I didn't want to edit. Now I load all my originals onto an external drive and then put them on the C: for importing to Elements.

Ordered yesterday. My laptop is not too old and runs windows 10. I back up everything to a external hard drive weekly. I should be good. Hope you don't see me in a week asking why its not working. that would mean that I'm not good. lol
Thanks for the response.

I am assuming you back up the Catalog file itself, as well. This is critical if you use the Organizer to manage your images. You can find its location by clicking on Help > System Info from within the Organizer. This is often not done.

That is why I recommend to use the Backup/Restore commands within the Organizer itself.

I have PSE 10, 11, PhotoshopCC, LRCC, Gimp, FastStone and Nic filters. No conflcits - use them all. BTW - Just to clarify and assist. You photos are not "stored" in PSE 11 or PSE 15. You can view them in either Broswer. What ever filing system you use for uploading images from the memory cards are where they are stored on your hard drive. Same for Lightroom or any program for viewing images.

Just did it. Found missing files and then ran as directed. Backup was successful.
Thanks,
Ron

My photo's are stored to Picasa first. If I go from my SD card download directly to Elements I find they are also in Picasa. I use to download to Picasa first but found out this was not necessary. Is this what you are telling me?
Thanks,
Ron

With most photo processing software the photos are stored in the Windows Pictures file. The photo processing software has the locations stored under its files. So when new photos are stored they can find the new ones. This is why Photoshop Elements will give a notification that new images are found in watched files and take time to locate them if loaded via some other program.

Got it. The flow process now makes better sense to me ( I think). When I use to stick my SD card into my laptop it would open Picasa. Getting the pictures from the card would download to Picasa and also Windows Pictures. That has stopped happening and I have to open up some program like Picasa or Elements to download the photo's to manually. Whatever I opened and downloaded the photo's to it would also be in my picture file in Windows. When I open Elements I would be getting the photo's from My Pictures in Windows. Hope I am explaining this correctly.
Thanks for this info. As you can see I am not great with computers, but get by.
Thanks,
Ron

I hope you are now clear on the process and find that your images are able to be viewed in Windows, Picasa & Elements. Feel free to continue to ask for further assistance.

bdk,
Adobe DNG converter takes care of editing raw in Elements 11. I have used this because 11 is no longer supported by Adobe with any updates.
Thought is was time to upgrade.
