Anyone use any the Tamron 1150-600 G1, G2, or nikon 200-500 on Nikon d300? If so what were you shooting, and your thoughts on it.
Looking to get one these lens.
Thank you in advance.
Craig.

I borrowed a Tamron 150-600mm lens and tested it for several days on my Nikon D7200. Sharpness may be slightly better than my new Nikon Nikkor 70-200mm lens. I was really impressed with overall performance, however is one heavy lens to pack around. It's my must have list.

Of the three, the G2 is probably the sharpest, and a little over 1/2 lb lighter than the Nikkor 200-500.

Surely you are not saying the Tamron is sharper than Nikon's new 70-200EL F? If you are, you would be wrong.

Of those 3 I have only used the Tamron 150-600, version one. I have found it to be a most enjoyable lens. I find that I can hand-hold it and achieve decent results. But virtually all reviews indicate the G2 is noticeably sharper.

I use the G1 on a D300 and am very satisfied with it. Sure there are sharper, faster lenses, but their costs are also much greater. If you are selling your pictures than the cost is tax deductible.

Several people have said that they use the Tamron 150~600 and are quite satisfied - that's good. I have always used Nikon lenses and when I bought the Tamron 150~600, I was NOT satisfied ... there is a difference. The quality of the photos are NOT the same. The question you must ask is are you willing to spend a lot more money for a relatively small increase in photo quality. I am - others are not, and no one is wrong.

I use the Nikon 200-500 f5.6 lens on my D500. It cannot be matched cause there is nothing out there at the price point that compares. Nothing.

I have used the 200-500, I have seen the Imatest numbers on all the big zooms EXCEPT the Tamron V2, so here is my educated opinion;

The Nikon is a constant aperture f5.6 - which is unique among extending zooms - and gives it an edge vs f6.3. This slight edge becomes more significant when using older crop frame bodies.

The Nikon is a 2.5 ratio zoom vs a 4 ratio zoom of the Tammy - advantage Nikon ( regarding probable even resolution across the full range spectrum).

Resale value, - advantage Nikon.

The Nikon is heavier - so if you go Nikon, you must make a deeper commitment to properly managing the weight !

Personally, IMO, any differences in optical resolution are minimal and probably beyond perception ......and are far outweighed by proper management and techniques.

I recently bought a Nikon D750 and the Tamron 150-600 G2 and have been very happy. I use it mostly for Bird shots, owls, eagles, hawks, and other wildlife. It took a little while to get used to the weight, but now it is pretty comfortable. I do often hand hold and sometimes use a gimbal head which takes the weight off. And use auto ISO (all other settings are manual) I have been impressed with sharpness and the ability to crop extensively and still maintain sharpness. I did look at the Nikon200-500 but it was much heavier in my opinion but I do know it's a very sharp lens also. I am happy with the Tamron and suits my needs very well.

I have not used any of those two lenses but in my particular case I prefer to go with Nikon unless I badly need those extra 100mm.
Be it Tamron or Nikon I know both are heavy lenses.

I've used a Tamron G1 for about a year on a Canon Mark II and a heavy Manfrotto and found the images so sharp you could cut your finger on one. Very satisfied
