I have an expensive lense that I paid a lot for. How do I estimate it's value if I want to sell it.

Ebay and KEH would be a good guide.

Search for it in 'sold listings' in Ebay. The dollar amounts should be in green; if not you are in the wrong place. Hope this helps.

I usually use e-bay also. Gives you an idea of what people are asking for and paying for your particular lens. Places like online camera shops like Adorama or B&H Photo usually have higher prices on used stuff.

Look up the "sold-prices" on ebay, it will give you a good overlook what that lens is/has been going for!

Maybe some here have sold or bought one. Which lens is it?
Can also maybe tell you how long it took them to sell it or how long they looked for one. Just saying.

The value of anything is only as high as someone is willing to pay. With that said, look up your lens on ebay, then in the left column look under the tabs until you find one labeled SOLD FOR. Click that and you will see what your lens SHOULD be worth on the used lens market. By the way, ebay is now considered the go to source to price your used equipment. Remember, your lens is worth only what someone is willing to pay for it.

Do you mean they charge more to the customer? My take is that they pay less but are willing to buy readily.

Do a search on ebay for the lens. Then go down the left column and check "Sold listings." That will show you the actual selling prices.

It may not be the best place to sell the lens though. I met a fella yesterday who sold an olympus camera for around $600 on ebay, unfortunately it went missing in Shannon Airport. The insurance paid out around $180, he had to refund the buyer $600 plus he lost the camera so roughly losing $1000 in total.

On the plus side for me this meant being a local buyer able to collect in person, made me his prefered customer for my new scanner rather than the fella in Dublin who wanted him to organise a courier to take it there instead.
