Actually I use a manfrotto fluid head. Remove the handle Anita works quite well on a monopod. Very smooth tracking.

I have used quite a few tilt heads - but today I prefer a video fluid head for following action.

KingJoy makes impressively good stuff for the money - I use this - http://www.ebay.com/itm/KINGJOY-VT-2510-Video-Fluid-Dydraulic-Damping-Damper-Tripod-Ball-Head-/192020961090?hash=item2cb5575742:g:V~gAAOSwA3dYIC6q - and like it. Using with 300 2.8 W/ 1.4X, 100-300 f4 and 500 f8 mirror.

I use a Siri L-10 monopod head and have been very happy with it.

I use a Manfrotto 222c pistol grip sometimes with my 100-400, on my monopod. I had the quick release plate replace with a conversion kit to arcca swiss. I have no issues with this set up.

I have also used the #222 with a 300 2.8 W/2X and it was OK - but not that smooth for following action for me.

Really Right Stuff MH-01 or MH-02
the difference is lever or screw release.
I have and prefer the lever, it is faster way to release.
It is Tilt axis only, does everything I need.

My recommendation exactly. I prefer the screw release, just because I do, and I do have both. B&H now sells these so you can get them fairly quickly and with shipping included. Best of luck.

With my Sigma 150-600C I use a tri-pod and gimbal head. For me it is just too heavy and cumbersome to use a mono-pod and I just can't seem to get clear crisp images. I do however use an Induro monopod with a Manfrotto 496RC2 ball head on my Canon 7D MKII and a Tamron 70-200 2.8, with an extender which I find works quite well for me.

Go for a "tilt-head" with an ARCA clamp.

I,ve tried tilt and slide heads on my mono. I shoot wildlife and 90% are taken horizontal with a D7200 with Tamron 150/600 I prefer no head,. but thats just me.

I agree I use it for larger animals Deer, Coyote, Herons, Sandhill cranes that are stationary and not moving fast. It does not work well for BIF

I have a bento monopod with a tilting foot. It works very well without the use of a head, and I use the lens collar if I want to go vertical.

I would look at "BEIKE BK-03 Camera Tripod Ball Head Ballhead + Quick Release Plate 1/4" R5L3" on Ebay…..I just use a cheaper bald head as I don't do any birding and don't need heavy lenses for my monopod.

Others may feel differently, but I've put away the monopod for wildlife and either hand hold or use the tripod. I use the tripod far more than my monopod. My focus skills improved greatly moving to the tripod. However. I'm an old bugger and need every advantage. Good shooting...

I think you will find my facial stabilizers will help you - especially hand held and on a monopod ........
