Incorrect. Clinton mandated sub-prime housing which started us down the slippery slope. Bush inherited Clinton's mandate... a snowball rolling us downhill.

double wrong - as a former mortgage fraud investigator i can attest that it was not Clinton - it was Reagan who started the slippery slope - Clinton didn't mandate sub prime mortgages that particular piece of financial trickery was created entirely by the mortgage industry - you know Countrywide, Lehman Brothers, JP Morgan, Chase, Wells Fargo, Quicken.......

What Clinton did was he helped change the laws (with the help of Phil Graham) so that banks could more freely engage in highly leveraged and more risky investments.[/quote

Rob,
If you were in the industry then you forgot the most important piece of the pie. Remember the 30% requirement that Andrew Cuomo got removed during Clintons admin? Lots of pieces to the pie enough for all to go around.

George
I stand corrected. Basically they are all to blame.

Hmmm... Terrorists who rammed airplanes into the twin towers and the Pentagon didn't exist? The underwear bomber who tried to blow an airplane up just 50 miles from where I used to live didn't exist? The first attack on the twin towers didn't happen? People carrying plastic explosives in soft drink cups into British airplanes headed for the U.S. didn't exist? Wow... Am I having a nightmare I can't wake up from or do you live as a hermit under a rock?
Oh my! You are a politicians dream. You just keep reading whatever politically pleasing information you like and keep begging the government to please take away all your rights to keep you safe.
You can live worry free and safe in the police state you seem to crave.
It seems the view is much better from under this rock than you seem to have from your mainstream pearch.

Please pass the cool-aid.
What do you consider yourself? If you think he is a politicians dream what the hell are you? Are you going to tell me and the rest that read his reply that he is wrong, they did not do what he says they did. I for one lost 23 men that I trained in the use of AGA Masks, Dry Suits and underwater rescue techniques in the FDNY. These men died at the hands of whom, care to tell us. I live in NYC was born here, see the Freedom Tower being built. Your sarcastic comments don't hold water. Islamic terrorists attacked this country, only fools don't think we need to be aware.

Dear George,

And an ex-US Army American carried out the Oklaoma City bombing.

Your point was?

Cheers,

R.

Wow George, I didn't mean to get you in an uproar, I apologize.
I never intended to imply that the attacks didn't happen or that thousands of innocent people were killed.
My point is that our government never lets a good catastrophe go to waste.
They have used the death of our people to further the control of us.
The war on terror, the war on drugs, out of these events they have passed laws that limit and subdue us the people of the United States, they have not really done much to harm our so called enemies.
I have the greatest respect for you and those like you who give so much to help others, however I resent the way you were treated. Many of you have sickened and died from the environment you were were subjected to during you heroic rescue attempts. Not only were you not taken care of, the powers that be denied you had the problems you did.
Due to the actions and half truths and just plain lies we have been told about so many incidents I just don't believe them anymore.
I don't believe much of this story any more than I believe that my time in VietNam was for the good of anyone other than those who make money on the industry of war.
Thank you for your sacrifice.

Obama is a terrible president, he has hurt the blacks of the US far beyond their ability to see it. The poor are hurt by his economic policies. Please look at the facts before you make judgements about those of us who pay attention.

George
George, specifically what Economic policies do you have in mind?
---The big bail out - the one most economists say saved the banking system, was passed by a bipartisan Congress, and if anything, was too small. I heard one Republican pundit admit, grudgingly acknowledging the wisdom to the decision by the Fed, that "when you find a fire you put it out and don't worry about how you do it.
---Perhaps you mean the advice of the bipartisan panel that advised cuts in social programs balanced by higher taxes on the wealthy - a policy about which nothing has been done because compromise appears to be a dirty word in Washington these days.
---Maybe you hate the Obama infrastructure investment proposal that would repair highways and bridges while creating jobs, but sounds like Big Government to Conservatives.
---Do you like the trickle down theory of wealth that has shown no indication of working since it became a concept during the Reagan Administration?
---Where is the evidence that the wealthy are job creators? Entrepreneurs need money to create jobs and expand businesses but the banks are not being generous with loans, nor do consumers feel sufficiently confident to spend their money to encourage growth.
---So what policies has Obama been able to enact that can be blamed for what is a major international economic crisis?
--- I will concede that Obama has been ineffective in parlaying his early political capital into law, often comes across as abstruse and disconnected, too willing to compromise rather than lead, politically naive; but I'd rather have these weaknesses than a President who seemingly has found a way to reverse every opinion he has ever uttered.
And while we are on it-
--- Unless you believe armed intervention is a reasonable substitute for a foreign policy, got problems with Obama's international successes?

Hmmmmm....it seems that it was Barny Frank and his cohorts that promulgated the policy of sub-Prime mortgages for all that wanted one regardless of credit-worthiness. Of course the banks jumped on the policy because the govt was taking on the risks. The Bush admin had warned of the huge risks a number of times but Frank refused to change the policy insisting that there was no danger inherent with the policy. Plenty of blame to go around there but just follow the money and who prospered by sucking up to the financing companys.... think of mansions in Ireland etc. There are darn few heros, and many scoundrels in politics.

Members of both parties have these uncertainties with wha's happening with state voting laws and after the SCOTUS Gore V. Bush ruling, of course they're worried.

He hasn't been able to implement an economic agenda because the Republicans in the House of Representatives won't let him. They are more interested in seeing him fail than the economic well-being of the country.
