I Just Ordered a Refurbished Canon 6D From Canon. Do I Have Anything to Worry About.

I bought one about six months or so ago from Canon. Like new. Takes great pics and high ISO performance seems much better than my 70D (also bought refurbished from Canon) which is a camera I have always liked. The lack of an abundance of focus points is not an issue for me. My previous experiences with buying refurbished from Canon have all been completely satisfactory.

No worries at all. Canon refurbs are a great deal, when they are in stock (varies a lot, depending upon model).

1. Same warranty as new.
2. Often are only lightly used demo, trade show, open/damaged box or overstock returns... not a faulty item that was returned.
3. If faulty, repaired to factory specifications by factory trained techs. If not fully up to specs after repair, won't be sold as a refurb.
4. All items are fully inspected... in fact probably are more carefully checked than brand new items coming off the factory assembly line.

The 6D is an older model now, but still one of the best for low light/high ISO work (the 1DX II and 5DIV are probably the only Canon models that are marginally better at it).

In a sense, the 6D is a "full frame Rebel". Like the Rebel series cameras it's got 1/4000 top shutter speed and a slower (1/180) flash sync. However, it's control layout and displays are more like 60D/70D. Build, weight and general "feel" are also a bit more like the more upscale cameras. It has a true pentaprism (where Rebel series use a cheaper, lighter penta-mirror that's not typically not quite as bright). Like all Canon full frame models, it doesn't have a built-in flash or an articulated LCD monitor.

6D's AF system is simplistic. 11 points, only the center one is the more sensitive, dual cross type. But that center point is good to -3EV... That's about equal to bright moonlight. This is now found on some more recent Canon models (7DII, 80D), but only 5DIII and 1DX offered that low light focusing capability at the time 6D was introduced. (And they also are limited the number of their AF points that can do it.) Most other Canon focusing systems have been limited to -1 or -0.5EV. The ten peripheral points in the 6D are far less capable. And it's AF system means it's not an ideal action camera.

However, 6D is quite capable and should be lots of fun... It's a very good value for a full frame camera (especially at the $1200 Canon is asking for the refurbs), great for low light/high ISO, portraiture, scenics, macro and more. It's especially nice when you can use one alongside a 7DII or other high performance crop sensor model that can serve other purposes. It can share LP-E6/E6N batteries, charger and SD memory cards with 7DII or 60D/70D/80D, too.

As someone already mentioned... Rumors are that a 6D "Mark II" is coming sometime mid-year or in the Fall, so there will probably be quite a few available used or offered new at clearance prices.

I have been following the Canon 6D for some time. I want one due to the picture IQ. I now have a 7D MKII but there appears to me that there is a bit of noise in my low light shots. I am hoping that I will see a difference with the 6D

Canon now has refurbished 6Ds in stock. Do I have anything to worry about?

Comments from anyone that has dealt with Canon and their refurbished cameras/6D will be greatly appreciated.

There is a slight difference in IQ especially low light images. If you're used to the auto focus speed of your 7D, you will likely be disappointed with the 6D. For manual focus type shots, it's hats to beat the 6D. Once you learn the sort comings of the focus system, you will love it and be able to use the auto focus except for fast action.
Nothing to worry about with refurbished.

I would like to thank everyone for their feedback. Canon tells me that I should be getting my camera by the end of the week. I am really looking forward to receiving it. This is a great site. Everyone has been really helpful.

Nothing to worry about, the 6D is a great camera and refurbished is nothing to be worried about.

Worry about not using it. Worry about fear of using it. Worry about dropping it. Worry about snarky posts in this thread.

(Just go out and use it, already! It should last for years.)

I have purchased, in the past before switching to Sony, two Canon refurbished bodies and both were essentially brand new with no signs of wear. I believe most if not all of these items are returns, not something defective and repaired.

That's one thing that I don't have to worry about.

Never too late to ask. I got excited seeing that it was in stock. I ordered before the camera was sold out. This camera does not stay in stock long. Then the question hit me and then I hit UHH with the question.

I think he was referring to the fact, that you ask your question after ordering, it seems natural to do so, before one does!
