It will be excellent, and will give you a field of view equivalent to 300-750 on a full frame camera.
Thank you....I also have a D810 at home in Pennsylvania but to avoid carrying it back and forth flying every 5 weeks, I leave my D7100 permanently in Florida.
I was hoping for the answer you gave me.
As many others have stated, I also would recommend the 200-500 which I use myself for my bird and wildlife photography. Nice Osprey picture JeffDavidson!
If you like long shots for birds, planes, wild game, etc, the 200-500 is your poison. Just a remarkable lens that you will grow to love and search out ways to exercise its capabilities.

My; 200-500 works extremely well on my D-800 with a 1.7 tele. You will love the lens. Happy shooting.
<freddB> I have the D3300 (DX) and the 200-500. very compatible and love it. it's my high end lens (meaning for me starting at 200, not 70-80). good luck with your choice. if you want to start in the middle (70/80) go for that one.
I have the 200-500 and I use it on a D500 (DX) and a D810 (FX). I like it a lot.
