Hi
I have been reading these post for quite a while and have picked up some really good tips. We plan on renting a place for a week in August near Jackson and could really use some recommendations for best places to photograph. Things not to miss. I'm currently using an Omd-Em1 with more then enough lenses.
Thanks in advance for your help,
Francis

Pop over to nearby Driggs, Idaho (Teton Aviation Center), and take a glider flight over the Tetons. Unforgettable.

This guy,Mike Jackson, has spent the last twenty plus years in the Tetons. You can get some ideas from his site and do as we did and spend a day with him touring. Well worth the time and effort!

There are things to see everywhere. There are calm river float trips, hikes to see wildlife, hikes up into the mountains by cold streams and rock climbers you can watch. I remember there is a small mountain in the valley with a road you can drive up to the top on. We did that as a family and sat and watched eagles flying at our level, elk emerge from the woods down below, etc. The Snake River is there...nature abounds. The Tetons are my favorite park and place.

We also did the white water rafting on the Snake River there! Quite a thrill and trust me,the water was cold! We hit a long, calm stretch and the guide said that we could jump in and they would pick us up before the bend. My 10 year old jumped right in and I wasn't comfortable with that,so I followed.

Just drive around and keep your eyes open. The hill in the valley is perfect. Get directions to the old movie set from "Shane." Go to the lakes at the base of the Tetons.

Let's not forget Yellowstone is nearby, as well. We flew in and out of Jackson hole when we visited Yellowstone.

Be sure to do the hike around Jenny Lake. There is a waterfall to visit and we once came upon a bear taking a swim in the lake.

Just below Jackson Lake dam is one of the best places to find Moose.

The raft rides south of Jackson, in Hoback Canyon, are much more white water than above Jackson.

If you are there August 21, you need to take in the Total Solar Eclipse which will pass directly over that area. It will be quite an event as it is the first one the US has had since 1979 I believe. I will be work camping in Victor, (25 miles over Teton Pass) and we are hosting many astronomers with telescopes. You don't need a scope as most people who have one will be willing to share. You can't be in a better place for this event than in the Teton area.

BTW hope you have your reservations. Can be difficult and expensive then due to Asian Invasion. Also if you plan to go near eclipse time.

Got a great place for you right on the Snake River - look up 43.8566N 110.5535W - there's a decent dirt road to the river. Also, about halfway down the road is a gorgeous shot of the Tetons. WATCH OUT FOR BEARS probably doesn't need to be said, but when we were there a grizzly sow and cubs crossed the paved road (191, the Rockefeller Parkway) down to the river at the horseshoe bend.

Enjoy!

A drive up the west side of the mountains gives you a completely different perspective of the Tetons. Take the road over Teton Pass out of Jackson. The drive is well worth it if you can deal with the 10% grade on the road. If you have the time continue north to earthquake Lake in Montana. It is the sight of a major earthquake in the 1959 where a part of a mountain came down onto a campground and created a new, natural dam. You can see places where the earth shifted several feet.
