My first digital camera was a Sony Mavica, used floppy discs as media, 640 x 480 resolution.

A Kodak EasyShare Z760; 6.1MP; Schneider Lens. It took reasonably good photos. Drawbacks were JPG files only, no RAW; the lens is only a 3x optical + 4x digital zoom. I should have spent a bit more for a similar Kodak model with 8x optical. I gave the camera to a good friend and she is still using it!

I replaced it with a Kodak EasyShare P712; 7.1MP; 12x optical + 5x digital Schneider Zoom Lens; JPG, RAW, TIF output files possible. The selling points for me were the Schneider lenses. I'm familiar with the brand from Enlarging and Large Format film photography. Even though this camera in theory should create better images, it actually does not. With a good amount of Photoshop processing I can bring them up to the level of the Z760's JPGs. I still have this camera but it does have electronic and mechanical issues and so is not dependable any more.

Other than a few Kodaks at the time I might have bought a Canon something PnS. I had looked at Canon as well.

Mine was the Sony Digital Still Camera Mavica MVC-FD71. The one that used a floppy drive to store images I thought it was a toy and went back to film for a long time.

That is a cool shot.

Thanks TriX.
The Mavica did very well for its resolution. Sony seems to nicely on the greens. My H-1 (which I still use) and my wife's S-60 render greens equally as true.

Mine was an Olympus C2000Z, two megapixels and $800. I still have it. I think it still works. I would have to hunt around for a card reader for Smart Media. This is one of my favorite images of all time.

I had a Pentax ZX5n with me at the time, but it had a telephoto lens on it and I knew I didn't have enough time to swap out lenses before the boat would not be where I wanted it.

Beautiful shot!

Got to thinking about the cameras I've had over the years and thought I'd pose the question - what was the first digital camera you bought?

My first digital was the 1st Generation Canon Rebel, EOS 300D (or DS6041) I bought back in 2003. When it first came out it was touted as the first connsumer-grade digital camera that could be had for under $1000 ($999.00 with kit lens). It has a whopping 6.3 MP sensor and came with a very crappy 18-55mm lens. I think the shooting speed is measured is seconds-per-frame and not frames-per-second LOL. I still have this camera, and even occasionally shoot with it just for old time sake. For just stuff you want to paste to Facebook it's not too bad actually.

This camera. Sold it a few months back. It served me well. Before that, I had a Minolta 70 35mm (still have) and a Maxxum 7 (stolen). 6 megapixels, but a decent all-around camera.

Canon A95. Still have it and it takes good pictures, but I just couldn't live with the shutter lag. So I got a Nikon D40 which opened a whole new world to me.

Agfa ephoto CL50. 1.3 MP, 1 second shutter lag, 10 seconds to process each shot. It came with a 4MB Smart Media card that held 36 shots. $500 in 2000.
