Looking for a good security camera?

Hi everybody , I am in a bit of a mess right now and it would be great if I could get some help . I am working part time and studying at the same time so it is always pretty late whenever I get back home . I got back home late one evening and I found that one of the front windows were smashed , it was like as if somebody was trying to break in to my house . Thankfully nothing was taken . I live alone and I don't want this incident to happen again . I have shortlisted a few cameras from a security company ( http://optimumsecurity.ca/ ) . I have not decided on anything yet and I am open to more suggestions . I want it to sync with my phone so that I can get updates . I am not particular about any price range either . Any thoughts on this would be great .

Personally, I would consider a basic security alarm system as a first line of defense and a security camera as backup. But you probably could get the camera included with the monitoring package. I realize you may not want to spend quarterly monitor fees. I have had my system for more than 13 yrs with only one price increase in that time. I use a local co. that is less expensive than the big nationally known ones.
As an aside, a camera alone will not necessarily prevent a thief from entering. The camera may/may not identify the intruder depending on whether he/she was wearing a mask. However, a tripped alarm will scare 99% of them away.
Good luck on whatever choice you make.

As billb... said, installing a home security system from a security company will get people there in case of a problem, including fire. You can also install motion-activated lights to scare intruders away. I have several around my house.

There are lots of Wi-Fi security cameras that will pair with your phone, but how often are you going to be checking your phone? You could do a check before entering your house to make sure no one is inside, I guess.

Get a metal door knob and hard wire it to the electric box. Naturally, have a hidden switch outside where you can turn it off and on. Cheaper and it will also catch the thief for you; all in one package. To protect yourself put up a sign that says touch door knob at your own risk.

A coworker had a problem with a neighbors dog peeing on one of his rosebushes
and wired AC to a metal fence around the base.

A small child playing in the yard, died as a result.

For ease of use, I like the Nest Nestcam. It is more expensive than others but it it very nice looking, easy to use and works very well. Recording costs a subscription fee though.

For local recording if you don't mind buying some software, I like any of the Foscam models.

I have used the drop am (deluxe?) from Nest for offsite places and it works quite well, but the truth is it won't prevent a break in. It WILL have a video of it for the police (about $10 month). A wireless security system would be relatively inexpensive and using a monitor (who will call the cops and show up if the alarm sounds) will cost around $25 to $35 per month.

Arlo. If you have wifi in your home. Indoor/outdoor, uses batteries, motion activated, 720p, sends immediately to Arlo servers, keeps video 7 days, no subscription fees for first 5 cameras. Can be set to notify you by text or email.

I agree on an alarm system, with cameras as a backup. Simplisafe.com has a do-it-yourself alarm system that is inexpensive and easy to install yourself. They also offer optional monitoring for as low as $14.95/mo.

Cheap and works
Pickup a pair of big old boots and dip them in mud. Place on front steeps with a copy of "Guns & Ammo" between them. Mount a sign with " Smile, your on camera" somewhere close by.
I bought a Black Label Cam and have it in my upstairs window. Check one out for around $60.
