Went down to a "Natural Resource Area" about 40 miles away this afternoon to see what I could see, spent a couple of hours there and didn't see a damned thing worth dropping the shutter on - nothing but robins, chickadees, a few ducks and some crows. Ran into an older fella who mentioned a place about a mile away where kestrel sightings are pretty reliable, so I went there, and 5 minutes later a female kestrel flew in and landed on a fence post! Alas, the fence was on the other side of a 4-lane street, and about 50 feet up a 60-degree slope, so all my shots were at pretty long range - 35-50 yards, which is quite a distance for a bird little bigger than a robin - so these are all pretty heavily cropped. But it was fun watching the little lady as she hunted, and eventually caught something, though I'm not sure what...

....yes but its a Kestrel! Any time, any place within view equals a happy me. Nice job with this pretty lady.
You did well to get those great shots, I love them all.
Very nice and great to see one! They used to be fairly common around here, but not so, anymore.
Very nice work here ! - ANY kestrel shot is a GOOD one ....Thanks for sharing
Thanks, everyone!
Sblove, these were shot with a Tamron 150-600 lens on a Canon 7D MkII body.
