Thanks everyone for the nice comments on this beautiful bird. The Painted Bunting is probably the most colorful bird in North America. These birds migrate to Florida every winter from Georgia and South Carolina. They are also located in the southwest US. Mexico has a large population of these birds, but due to the beautiful colors, they sometimes are captured in Mexico and sold and caged. Very sad! The population of these birds have declined in the past few years due to habitat loss.
