The number one reason why my song birds are few and far between this month.
Thanks Doddy. the winter birds are few and far between here this time of the year. Hoping for an early spring.
Thanks Frankie...you're very kind.

I can't really see the tail; that is the give away between a Coopers and a Sharp Shinned. A Cooper's tail is square off and has a white bar and that's what this looks like. Coopers are a small hawk so that's probably what it is. Whatever it is your birds are in it's sights.
Termendous shots
Thank you tramsey. The ID always is a problem for me. I have to get a better book for id.
Cooper's Hawk? I think. Anyway a very nice shot of these beautiful birds,

Today I had some time and decided to go to the pond to see if anyone was home and to try leaving my aperture setting wide open to see what I could use for ISO for the geese and heron I usually see there. Wrong day to do that. VERY foggy, the geese were sleeping on the other side of the pond and the sky was completely gray and no light this early. BUT when I got home this guy/gal (who knows?) arrived on the fence, then flew to the tree right at eye level out the window. High 50's here today with forecast for about a foot of snow tomorrow....AHH New England.
Did a bit of cropping and played with the sliders in DPP. Was surprised at how much DOF I managed to get given the 5.6 and at that setting, it did also manage to blur my neighbors property.[/quote]
Excellent images Cmc35!
From one who collects shots of raptors, well done.

I love that first image...just beautiful.
Patience!!! How long did you have to wait to capture the take off? Perfect timing.
