What does beauty have to do with art?
Come on, you can't be that obtuse.

You can if you wish to ask supposedly profound questions possibly designed to display ones supposed intellect?

IS not art truth?
My programming head says
not art = truth
so
art = lies.
I don't think so, not that easy. in these days of alternative facts that we used to call lies, definitions are troublesome and art is the hardest to nail down. Art can make me feel something, so can truth and lies. But I have to acknowledge there is art that does nothing for me at all. Some art is made just for money laundering it seems too. Very hard for the Tax man to call it.
It's fair to say art isn't what I like or dislike and so i really can't say. Who can judge?

Giving honest comment on a photo without hurting the feelings of the photographer is an art to be learned too. Much easier to say it's a wonderful picture.
Excatly as you said. I seldom comment as I am poorly skilled and say dumb things. Better to look and learn what I can.

I think some people post an "attaboy" because they have an affection for making other people feel good about themselves and maybe to make them more comfortable in the group. They may recognize or think that a person posting a mundane photo might be living a mundane life and they are posting here for validation and connection. If you know someone personally I can see handing them an eyeopener, but maybe only so they don't embarrass themselves. But if you don't know a person that posts here constructive criticism is good, if invited, but hurling insults is not. Letting them know how to adjust exposure is one thing, saying the photo looks like crap through a fan is just rude and self serving. Besides, critics and professionals in all walks of life have rejected what later became world renowned! Shit through a fan sells in some circles! P.S I feel bad for someone who has never felt emotion from seeing a sculpture, painting or photo!
Everyone needs encouraging sometimes. If critiquing isn't ask for and u just don't like it there is no need to comment!

I am guilty as anyone when it comes to posting mundane photos of the same item, BIRDS. I do attempt to photograph other items but that is restricted for many different reasons. Why do I continue to post images of the same birds doing the same thing almost every day? Simple, it is what I have available for me to take photos of. I post them daily to get comments from people who may have never looked much beyond the first page or two any one of the different forums. I also get a comment or two as to where have I been if I do not post for a week or so and other posts that they like my colorful bird photos.
The total net of this thread I hope to get a better understanding as to why people like me continue to post so much "mundane" photos. For me is because I can.
Go ahead and flame, I can take it.

There is little I find mundane about birds. It is their very simplicity and naturalness that makes them fascinating and beautiful!

Sometimes a novel perspective of something very common becomes something unique and wonderful. That is when a person with a camera becomes a photographer. Some, however will never have the "eye" to understand.
You have just summed up my dilema and my goal in one elegant comment! Developing an eye for the unique and the wonderful and reaching for the goal of calling my self a photographer...all before the end of my life. I feel I'm falling a bit behind!
