Question- what are the best attractants
to bring wildlife to my blind.

Thanks on advance.

Depends on where you are. First check with Wild life Officials. Then visit or go online to Bass Pro, Cabela's, Gander Mountain, and other Hunting/wildlife stores. Walmart Sporting Goods also may have a limited selection in your area. But the majors that I listed will be the biggest help, even if you look there then go somewhere else. When/if you go in, ask questions as their staff probably has access to your answers. While they sell guns and hunting, they also deal a lot with photographers doing nature photography.

It's your property, is it baiting to plant berry bushes? an apple tree? corn? make the area attractive to them, plant it and they will come, where have I heard something like that before?

For males - can of beer
For females- shopping mall
Sorry. Could not resist.
That's an incredible "back yard". Looking forward to seeing some of your images.

Is baiting animals unethical? In Maine they had a referendum to make it illegal to bait bears - it failed. The Game Warden Association even put up ads on TV urging people to vote against the referendum.

So people leave bait such as donuts and candy to attract bears - and then kill them.

But if you bait deer - oh - THAT is just terribly unethical and against the law. Makes a lot of sense, huh?

It's illegal to feed deer in NY.

When you observe one of these animals, get your drone airborn and capture the shot. No messy baits, building blinds and sitting still for goodness knows how long.

I always found that you must make yourself invisable. where as you disappear to wildlife. you do that with cover up scents, clothing. there is all kinds of stuff out there. if the animals don't know your there you will sucessful

If you have bear and mountain lion in your area and you are baiting in any way be sure to carry at least a .357 Mag with you. If for nothing else to scare potential predators away form you. If you are going to bait keep it far away from you and down wind and use a longer lens. The activation of your camera can draw them in and spook them if your not carful. In my experience for the most part wild animals will not bother you but it only takes once to ruin a good day. I've been able to get pretty up close and personal with black bears when I was younger (and dumber) but I wouldn't get anywhere near a lady with cubs, they can turn viscous in a heartbeat. I had a friend mauled by a black bear because he accidently stepped on it. He was just taking a walk in the woods. Living in the mountains of Pennsylvania most of my young life I really never worried about bear and lion I always was more aware of timber rattlers and I saw plenty of them over the years. Just be careful.

You really don't need anything lethal to keep apex predators away from you. A few years ago, when photographing Grizzlies, we used road flairs to keep the anaimals away when they got too close. Quite effective and no animals were harmed.

Rice bran will attract deer, coyotes, and bear. Don't know about mountain lions. Just dump it on the ground, you don't need a feeder. Besides bear will destroy feeders. I bear country I carry a 44 magnum pistol.

I use a salt lick for Elk. The cheap ones for cows work fine. It should work for the deer.

If you shoot a deer now and then it should work for the others...

Piumbbob,

Not sure what state you're in but in California, baiting is illegal for taking game (All the above). But it is legal to have water in containers within 200 yards of the hunting area. Since you're not taking game technically you can placed items to attract game such as plastic turkeys, plastic baby hogs, etc. But be prepare to answer to a game warden if questioned. Not illegal to set up a blinds here in the Republic of California.
