Wait until you see one of your photographs somewhere on the internet. Post a photo on the net and kiss it good-bye!
I have hundreds being used.
Not a big deal to me.
Exactly. I didn't even know there was a way to make a connection between photos on FlickrĀ® and their "home" on my computer. I've always just done an upload and AFAIK there is no continuing link.
I have had a couple of instances where a photo of mine got used someplace without my knowledge, but most people do contact me and request permission. One was used as a book cover and I did get informed by a friend; however, I didn't mind its use (would have liked attribution) because I am quoted in the book and it is one I approve of--profits from it go to support a cause I like. I did get advised about another that had been coped and used and I contacted the person. We agreed for his use as long as he gave me attribution.
It is true that any picture posted on the Internet can be copied, even from sites that don't allow downloading. All that is necessary is to do a screen save and then paste it somewhere it can be cropped and re-saved. Some resolution may be lost that way, but the photo is in their control. I accept that risk because I don't earn any money or fame from my photography (if you've seen it you might agree I shouldn't--Ha!) so my only real concern would be if one of my pictures got put on a site promoting activities or causes I don't support. The nature and content of my photos is not such that would encourage such usage, so I'm not too worried. It is a risk I acknowledge and accept, however.
You can download a program called "bulkr" to download all of your images from Flickr.
