American Airlines is ordering planes without the seatback LCD screen. If you want entertainment, bring your own, and pay for Wi-Fi, of course. AA is also introducing a lower economy class without storage bin "priviledges."

I thought I read somewhere that airlines were considering charging for overhead storage. Not sure about underseat, though. This is just one more example of what I call the "cheapening of America". Will it ever end? The reduction in food product sizes (and quality) seem to continue unabated. I expect two holdouts, milk and eggs, to be reduced one of these days.

They could run special Nude Flights. No security check-in, less weight to fly, potential for charging higher prices. Of course, cleaning the seats after each flight would add to the expense. :)

The airlines keep reducing leg room and making the seats narrower. They take away the amenities that were associated with air travel and crowd more people on each plane. Planes are becoming more and more like cattle cars, they wonder why there are more unruly passengers. I do not fly unless I have to, I prefer to drive when I can.

Free internet. It's bring your own screen. Can stream movies, etc. to your own device via satellite connection.

They should reduce the size of the allowable overhead storage. People pack their entire wardrobe and personal belongings into a heavy overstuffed bag and expect to find an overhead space to stuff it. Use check in !!!

Good idea. Of course as in nudist situations you would be expected to bring your own towel to sit on.

Seeing that here too, with WestJet phasing out the seat-back screens in favour of an onboard WiFi system you simply link to via your smartphone/tablet/laptop (I think the assumption is that the majority of people would have such a device with them). You don't get to surf through a selection of live TV channels anymore (just a selection of recorded episodes from a few shows) but still have the usual selection of pay-per-view movies to select from. I am told the seat backs now have outlets for power (including USB) but they put the stupid things so low down on the seat that I can't see them ... I'd probably have to get on my hands and knees to access them :(

What American Airlines is not seeing is that the general flying passenger population is becoming pissed in all of the ways that AA is finding more and more ways to rape the users. They (AA) are only concerned in the bottom line. This will comeback to haunt them. People are paying more and more for less and less. Some of the other Airlines will pick up new business from this poor decision. Customer service is the criteria. When I and others are given a choice in life we look for the best we can get for our money. Customer service and amenities are at the top of our list. Not increased prices for less and less.

They are doing it to save money but they are also offering free entertainment that you can get on your phones, tablets and laptops that you have with you.

Soooooooooooooooooo, if they're offering WIFI, does that mean that it should be OK to use your cell phone on the plane?

Since they offer free, strong Wi-Fi, a cell phone in Airplane mode should be okay, but that's a pretty small screen for a ninety-minute movie.

Good luck watching it on a little bitty battery. Good earphones with earplugs are a must.
