There is a small waterfall that is about a mile outside Bryson City in North Carolina, (least ways its small in the summer) but is a great way to cut your teeth on Waterfall photography.
Not great pics, but when you only have 30 mins in the area you take what you can!

Those are very nice. It's a shame you didn't get to stay longer. I'm going to be in Bryson City next week. Where can I find these falls?

I've learned that when you say "Not great photos"; I come runnin' lol

These are great as always!

I especially LOVE the different perspective in the photos taken from the side-view instead of the expected, standard, front-on versions we see so much of.

Granted, not all waterfalls or circumstances lend themselves to the ability to take side views, but when one can... I think it adds something very refreshing to the set!

Thanks for sharing these, Ian!

Hi "Swimbob"

Bryson City is a great place as a base for exploring the Smokey Mountains but does not have a wholw lot oing on in itself.

In the town center theres a train depot and if your into old trains your in luck. The road that runs east west on the north side of the railway track goes eastwards and goes right up to the park area and if you go right to the top of the carpark the path that goes up to the falls is on the left.

Its not a really spectacular water fall but it makes for some good pictures and I believe there is an even better one close bye. Its well sign posted.
Not to far away is a little town, more interesting than Bryson called Cherokee . If you like scenary are going up there I found the little back road route 19 is far more likable than going on the highway. Cherokee is very photographable, theres a great "Indian Museum" in the town center. I'm not a museum person but this was exceptionally good.
Anyway have fun. I stayed at the Microtel which is just off the highway as you go into Bryson. Its on the south side of the highway, is brand new and the rates are real good. Register for their "Frequent guest" card and stay 2 nights and the third is free.

Thanks for the advice Ian. I'm actually going to be camping in the Nantahala Gorge just past Bryson City. I'm hoping to get some good fall folliage pictures and if I get a chance would like to experiment with some water fall pictures. My time will be limited though because most of my days will be spent kayaking down the Nantahala river.

Thats a coincidence, my daughter is coming from England to take part in an international kayaking competition in the Nantahala .
One of my other daughters got married a few months ago on a hill overlooking the river (where the split highway from Bryson goes back to single lane traffic.)

Have fun, I was never there in the fall but I am told itd beautiful and packed like a New Rork Subway train on New Years Eve.

Good luck

Ian
