I am honored that you all find the photo more than satisfactory . I have done hundreds of restores . I used Photoshop CC 2017 with a Wacom pen and tablet ... I hope he loves it as much as you do. After reading it is his only picture of his mum, it makes it all worth while . Your welcome ,Tommy

Tommy - would love you to make a vid/screen recording - Excellent work. Tis something I want to do as a hobby and f.o.c for neighbours and friends to bring loved photos back to life.

I gave it a 10 minute try by selecting a color and then content aware filling the selection. It didn't work at all.
Would it be fair to guess that you went one spot at a time with more than one tool?

The video file would be very large to record my work as I restored a photo . The tools I used in PS were the content aware , paint , burn , dodge , move , liquid boat filter , very little clone , healing brush , lasso tool , contrast , lighting . Thats all that I can remember at this time . I wouldn't even attempt repairing this photo with out having a Wacom tablet and pen . Some of the spots I did separate , and some I did as a group .... If this was easy , everyone would do it ..... I learned my methods on my own with years of practice , and thinking outside the box as the saying goes . And I do a lot of B&W to color photos . Looking at my restored photo this morning I saw something that I didn't notice yesterday that I didn't like . So I made the changes and reposted a new copy . Tommy

My laptop showed areas of color was way wrong in this photo . Once again I made changes because I am a perfectionist if only to me . Posting new copy to see how it shows up here .

Tommy, I don't know you and we haven't communicated much on UHH but I had to add my congratulations to everyone's for what you did for Ron (SX2002). That is great work and very giving of you to do it for him. That's one of the things that makes this site great. I like playing with PS but that was way above my ability. Truly great wok.

this morning I decided to calibrate my laptop using spyder 4 elite since I saw a big difference in this photo compared to what it looks like on my main working desktop monitor which is always calibrated . I discovered my laptop was way off . But after calibrating , I was happy and sad at the same time . It was off for sure , it has more color now , but the sad part is it is only 85% accurate and my desktop monitor is 98% accurate. Would think a $1000 laptop would be more accurate after calibration .... Tommy

Some of your parts are better then mine , but I noticed your photo copy has the same problem my first one did . The center of the photo has a strong purplish color to it compared to the original . I used the desaturation tool on that area in my 3rd copy and repainted the closer color to the original back in . Hope I didn't upset you pointing this out .Tommy

Yes it does, I think part of my problem was finding areas to copy from to get the pattern to have some consistency. I tried to reduce some colors in certain areas and it just got away from me.

After seeing your photo . I have decided to redo mine completely . Somethings I will change , and somethings I won't .. I am going to use a different method to see how it works out . Will still take a lot of time . But I'm use to that , or I wouldn't do it . What I learned doing the first 3 copies will help me eliminate mistakes I made .Tommy
