Rodeo time in Homestead

This is rodeo weekend in Homestead Florida, a bit south of Miami. Today the temp was about 83, partly cloudy skies, just about perfect weather for a rodeo. This is a professional rodeo with professional cowboys. This is a really hard way to earn a living.

I used a Panasonic GX8 with a 100-400 lens.

Great action shots. Good job. Looks like a good way to break something.

No, we have been attending this one for the past 12 or so years. We have also been to the Reno Rodeo, a 2 week affair, and other smaller rodes.

Thanks for your nice comments

Great action shots! It would be interesting to see a closeup of their faces when they came down hard - the riders, not the horses.

There is a lot of fast action so I use shutter speed priority with the SS set to about 1\1600 sec, ISO about 400 and let the aperture float. I also shoot raw to allow for some exposure misses, if any, and better detail.

I have done that a few times in the past and you can see the intensity and sometimes pain on their faces.
