No I'm not kidding. He asked why he thought that many of the shots on here were stale. I was just reassuring him that he wasn't exactly wrong. My My My....are we sensitive??

He did not say the shots on here (here being UHH) are stale. You need to get your reading glasses adjusted.

My camera, I never leave home without it. I do keep it set on auto while its sits on the front seat next to me in the car. Just in case I have to take a quick shot.

I have been there a few times myself when I simply didn't see anything at all worth photographing no matter if I was at the Grand Canyon or the coast of Oregon. What I do is try to go smaller. You mentioned FDR's home. Rather than take a photo of let's say, the kitchen, how about taking a photo of a corner of a chair showing the wood grain. How about an architectural photo of a shingle pattern on the roof. I have never been there so of course am speculating. When I started shooting macro photography of flowers, insects etc. it opened up a whole new world of photography for me. Then I got even more interested in not simply shooting a flower but more the inside of a flower. It is amazing, the symmetrical shapes of the insides of a flower, that are like miniature flowers unto themselves. There is a lot out there to photograph but sometimes you have to think inside the flower so to speak. Good luck.

Hi,been shooting and enjoying photography over 45 years.I am finding excuses for not bringing my beloved camera with me lately.just got back from FDRs library and home, upstate N.Y.Figured it has been photographed extensivly, you can google it and there it is.what am I going to do,that has not been done.thinking about that wherever I go.I like to keep it fresh, but after looking at so many beautiful pictures since Google,it all looks stale.nothing impresses me anymore.is it just me,or maybe a dull time of year in the northeast.I want new, different, something that has not been done to the point that it is boring.have any of you felt this way? Thanks for taking the time to read this.
Hi,been shooting and enjoying photography over 45 ... (show quote)

Anyone who spends time in any creative endeavor has peaks and valleys - no different with musicians, writers, painters, etc. Some of us deal with the valleys by walking away for a while, but others deal with it by forcing themselves forward. Each has to find their own path.

My advice may be of little use with your valley, but here it is anyway: keep shooting. Plan a trip off the beaten path. Go places you normally go but with a lens you don't usually use there. Read books about art. Try some kind of photography that is foreign to you. Learn something new and creative about photo editing. Try out some of the specialty subforms on UHH and interact with people on subjects you find interesting to discuss. In other words, build a ladder to get out of the valley.

It's not political correctness. It's being a human being and treating others like human beings instead of seeing them as just a label.

Whatever you chose to call someone it's still a label so stop trying to put a negative connotation on using labels. The English language would be lost without them.

...I'm quite satisfied that when I shoot, I'm shooting how *I* see it and nobody but me is me! (...says Popeye the sailor-man in paraphrase...). And regarding oldtigger's post, I think we're more subject to the instantaneous and ubiquitous nature of our world than we realize...it's everywhere NOW! Sure, it's easy to get nice gear and, although I think *everybody* is a artist, also easy to propagate content regardless of craft, but that's the fun! I've been around the block many times by now and totally delight in the world we're handing our kids...at least the tech part, lol. So shootshootshoot because when the ol' orbs close for the last time...you ain't gonna care one bit!

I hate to say it, but you sound depressed. There's plenty out there to feel depressed about, believe me. On the other hand, you're alive!!! See if you can enjoy the gift of life despite all the negatives. "This, too, shall pass." P.S. I hit 83 next week and have been photoing longer than you! There's always something beautiful to capture.

Would you rather be called a person or a welfare recipient? Just wondering. How about a person or an illegal immigrant, what would your preference be? Ever hear of doing unto others as you would have them do unto you? Just wondering.

Of the thousands of images that we see today, only a few capture our imagination. Ask yourself how you could get an iconic image like that for yourself. Work at that. Put it on the wall. Set a new goal...
Consider those photographers that have 100's of thousands of images on disk.
Consider the most prolific artist - how many completed works...20 ..40...100 in a lifetime.
Ask which is better - for you.

There comes a point when you may need to have a goal, rather than following a process.
Sometimes the fun is in achieving, not just doing.
Try getting out of your comfort zone. Try something 'off the wall' to put 'On your wall'.
Have fun

If I'm a welfare recipient then that's what I am. If I'm an illegal alien then that's what I am. If I'm a janitor that's what I am, not a floor tech. Get the picture. To coin the overused phrase - It is what it is.

You are so right.while reading your post,I was itching to grab my gear and go.we just got back from Alaska.the cruise was canned, everyone photographing the same glacier, which, frankly is a little boring.we departed our bus in Denali .breathtaking to see,but the odds of getting a good shot of Dall sheep,or bear are slim.they are right in front of you,but don't pose for photos.I put my knowledge to use on one of the scenic shots.tourist stand in the same spot and shoot,I put my camera down on the ground with small flowers in foreground with the snow capped mountains in the background.those little travelled roads are out there, will take your excellent advice.thank you

I like the way you think.I have to step it up a little.the camera is not going to do it.sometimes you have to leave something and come back to it.

I agree with what you said.photography was always with me,lately it seemed like it lost its luster.for me,that is a little scary.Im coming around.just have to stop reading about the latest and greatest equipment and what to buy next.thinking back when I would take my Nikon F and a lens and just shoot for sheer enjoyment.remember that?did you ever read about people talking about this lens, that lens etc.I just want to scream, did you ever actually take a picture worth talking about?Im going back to the basics.thanks for your reply,I appreciate it
