Thank you for your input

Agree, in part. The lens marking shows IS.

With this focal length, you can do general photography, which probably accounts for 95 percent of all photography.

Again this is new in a box from my work, but I will check the serial number tomorrow. Do you call Canon or is there a place online I can check. The other lenses I have are great for the head shot and work for realtors. I also have a 4K drone I use for aerial shots.

This is an excellent all around lens and one of the most popular as a general "walk-around" lens. As an L series, the quality is excellent and it is quite sharp. I have this lens, and on a FF body, it's extremely versatile - from wide to short tele, and the IS is very effective. probably on my camera as much as all my other lenses combined. Here are the downsides: first, on a crop body, the widest setting is not especially wide (but you have that covered with the Sigma). Second, there is a known ribbon cable issue as the lens ages on some copies, and the repair is $200-300. Third, even though the cost is coming down because the MKII version is now available, the price you're quoting for a new, not used, copy is too low, which tends to indicate it's a grey market lens. That may or may not matter to you, but it essentially means that Canon USA will not honor the warranty. You may be able to get warranty work if you mail it to its country of origin. If you want to be sure, ask for the S/N prior to purchase and check it with Canon support. In short, great lens, especially since you have wider focal lengths covered, but the price is suspiciously low since used copies of this lens are selling for $500-600.

You may be able to register it with canon if it has not been done before and you have an original sales receipt.

I have a Canon 80D, Sigma 70-200 2.8, Sigma 17-10 2.8, and a Canon 50mm 1.8. I have wanted to buy a nice in-between lens and a 24-105mm presented itself to me at a price tag of $460.00 brand new. I shoot small weddings and events and wanted a good L lens to use for such opportunities. What do you thing about that lens and what would be any downfalls if any with this lens? I don't think I could pass up that price.

James, this is a very good lens for your kit, not the best but still very good. A short-coming will be f/4 but speedlites are made for these times. Ypur new lens is one of the most versatile I have. Many other shooters like it also. Great price. Enjoy!

I have two of them and they are nice lenses. $460 is a good price for a new one. It's probably a white box lens. The 24-105L is also a kit lens and often cameras are purchased by retailers with the kit lens and sold retail without the lens. The lens is then sold separately. Since the new 24-105L II is now available, the price has dropped on the original edition. As Canon L series lenses go, the 24-105 f/4Lis nothing special, it's one of the Canon f/4 L series lenses, a good lens but not particularly a great lens. It will perform well for you and is more than worth the asking price. Heck, I paid $500 for one of mine and the other came as the optional kit lens on a 6D.

It is a fantastic over-all lens. Very sharp. This lens could be "gray market" - imported directly from another country rather than by Canon, and as such will not be covered by the Canon warranty. However, this lens has been widely incorporated into kits by Canon and is frequently sold when the kit is broken up - called a "white box" lens sometimes. When sold like this, the price ranges between $500 and $600 that I have seen. I bought one of these and I easily registered the serial number on Canon's website. I would say - especially if it comes with a Canon warranty - go for it - it will be one of the best lenses that you own!

Agree mostly.

The aperture of f/4 seldom has any limiting effect in doing photography. Higher ISO settings with minimal noise in combination with IS allowing slower shutter speeds substitute for a larger aperture (like f/2.8).

Flash lighting brings up another approach to doing photography.

Hello Friend,
I bought this lens a year ago for around the same price. I took it to a local camera shop and had it checked out. lens was as perfect as the new one for twice the price. I keep it on my 70D for a walk around. Also great for portraits. You cannot go wrong with this purchase as it can also move up to a full frame. A very sharp lens, you will not be sorry. Go for it !!

As everyone else has stated, it is probably grey market. At that price, it could also be a total scam. Are you buying it from a dealer or an individual, such as from Craig's List? Be careful. There are lots of scams in internet land!
As far as the warranty, Canon will repair grey market items but will not honor the warranty. You will have to pay the going rate. Unless you drop it or take it swimming with you there is little chance you will need the warranty in the first year, which is the length of the warranty. BTW, where are you from? I see you have Wellington listed. Is that in the US? Canada? New Zealand? That would make a difference as far as warranty.
It is a very good general purpose lens. Certainly worth the price.

Hey Guys read the thread. His boss bought it and is giving him a deal. Perhaps it can be registered with Canon. If not even if it is G. M. it still is great. And if the guy has a second one at that price I get first dubs.

It is a great all-around lens. I have it and it on my camera 75% of the time. The f4 is a little limiting in low light. The price is good for the MkI copy.

This is a great lens and the price is ok, but, on a crop frame, I would go with the 15-85 EFS lens, as 24 on a crop sensor is often not wide enough when shooting people.
