In what sounds like a well-planned burglary, thieves broke into an interior design store and then broke through a wall to the neighboring Rockbrook Camera store in Lincoln NE, stealing at least 27 cameras and lenses.

These items are almost certainly going to show up in online sales offerings. Be wary.

They took all of the Nikon gear and left everything else, go figure.

Why be wary? If anyone knows the bad guys tell em to contact me cos if the price is right I'll no doubt buy some gear off em. Someones loss is always someones else's gain. The shop should be insured so turning a disaster into a profit should be easy. If they are unclear how to fill in an insurance claim form again tell em to contact me providing all tey have told the insurance company so far is that they need to do a full inventory check before submitting a claim.
Sounds like a win win situation to me.

Only this group could take a robbery report and mold it into a Nikon vs Canon controversy. And obviously, Canon loses the argument...

Hey! I just found some cameras AND lenses for sale on Ebay, might be them!

So MT, I know that you own and operate a store. When a shipment of new cameras comes into your store and you place them in inventory, do you bother to record the S/N of each new camera body and or lens or kit? Just wondering. That would be the only way to know if one is stolen when the item shows up at a authorized retailer for return or authorized repair center for work. Only problem is that the store owner such as yourself would have to report each one to all stores and repair centers and they most likely wouldn't have a system in place for this.

You know nobody would risk prosecution stealing Nikons, Sonys, Pentax, M-L etc, so you know they were all Canons!!! That's a good start!

My Google search came up with an article in the *April 10, 2014* of the local Lincoln, NE newspaper and AP about search for 3 miscreants who took $25,000 worth of goods from Rockbrook Camera Store. Could possibly be the same robbery.

Probably out of warranty by now. LOL. And with camera shops going bye bye, the store might be gone too by 2017!

Assuming these stolen cameras are state-of-the-art, wouldn't they have GPS features? Could that assist law enforcement in some way?

I suspect the store has a list of stolen cameras and perhaps even of serial numbers of same which they have provided to police and insurance company. Keep an eye open and see if such list can be obtained and share on UHH.

I got the story from Wednesday's Lincoln Journal-Star website, so I'm pretty sure this theft was recent. How much follow-up our local paper will have on the story (like lists of what was taken) is unclear; unless there are arrests, probably not much.

That the method may be similar to a previous break-in, here or somewhere else, could be coincidence or indicate commonality.

If I was the store owner, I'd be looking into beefing up my security system.

If I had a truckload of Nikons, I would try to get them to another country...
